The Greeks
The Greeks | H. Kitto

The Greeks were extraordinary not least because they evolved "a totally new conception of what human life was for". Elaborating on that claim, the author explores the life, culture and history of classical Greece.

I saw this on my feed from @tournevis and I had to know.

The Greeks | H. Kitto

Kitto is unashamedly in love with the Greeks: their way of life, their culture, politics, literature... he's deeply biased, discounting almost all previous civilisations as being without true culture, without literature. He's wrong (partially due to lack of evidence -- IIRC thus is from the 1950s) but so enthusiastic that I forgive him. Perhaps not a good source for the latest understanding, but likely unmatched in enthusiasm.
