Silver Canyon: A Novel | Louis L'Amour
3 posts | 5 read
A TROUBLED TOWN, A DEADLY SECRET “You’re not wanted in Hattan’s Point,” Matt Brennan was told moments after arriving in town. “There’s trouble here and men are picking sides.” But Matt decided he wasn’t going anywhere. Not until he found out what the dispute was about, and not before he got to know Moira Maclaren. She considered him nothing more than a drifting ranch hand, but Matt was determined to prove her wrong. To do so, he’d have to solve a mystery that was at the center of the growing violence in Hattan’s Point–a secret that could make a man rich . . . or dead. Probably dead. From the Paperback edition.

Mehso-so

There's no reason that I took so long to read this short book, except I didn't like it. I've never cared for Western movies, but thought I would give the Western book genre a try, since I've never read one. Lesson learned: I really don't like Westerns. If there's a strong plot and good writing, setting doesn't matter. Otherwise, Westerns bore me. I get why Louis L'Amour was popular in his time, but I'm spoiled by great writers like Louise Erdrich.

Definitely not my usual genre, but I have never read Louis L'Amour, that great American classic, so I thought I'd try him. His books were sold everywhere when I was a kid. Only 167 pages, and counts as Utah for #usareadingroadtrip. New genres are good for the brain 🤓

Texreader I'm not into westerns but he's written one book set in the golden age of the Middle East called the Walking Drum so I read it. It is awesome! 7y
azulaco @Texreader That sounds good! I have an ongoing long term challenge to read books set in foreign countries, so I'll definitely check that one out. 7y
Texreader @azulaco Not many of us have commented on it on Litsy but you can see by those who have think it's in their top 10 books ever. I need to read it again. 7y

Jinjer Is the usareadingroadtrip your own challenge or if not, where did it originate? Sounds fun! 7y
azulaco @Jinjer It's from Goodreads. It's a subtopic in the Around the World in 80 Books group. I thought it sounded fun too! I'm doing the 80 countries challenge as well, but on an indefinite timeline. I'm trying to complete the US challenge in 2017. 7y
Jinjer Oh cool I'll look for them! I was on some around the world thing on Litsy but haven't seen posts in ages so I must've somehow got myself off it. 🤔 7y

Book mail today. I don't think I've ever read a Western novel before, so I thought I'd give it a try. #usareadingroadtrip #192019
