Absolute Pandemonium
Absolute Pandemonium: The Autobiography | Brian Blessed
5 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
There is no one quite like Brian Blessed. He's an actor, film star, trained undertaker, unlikely diplomat, secret romantic, martial artist and mountaineer. He's also a brilliant storyteller who will - and you must brace yourself - simply leap out of the pages at you. Ready? Then open Absolute Pandemonium and you'll be taken on a riotous journey from his childhood, growing up the son of a miner in Goldthorpe, to finding fame in Z-Cars. You'll see Brian falling for Katharine Hepburn on the set of The Trojan Women, suffering wires strapped round his wotsits as he was hoisted into the heavens on Flash Gordon, almost causing an international incident when meeting the Emperor and Empress of Japan, and winning round George Lucas to get the role of Boss Nass on Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.Along the way he takes secret revenge on headmistress Mrs Jarman and her very big bottom, punches Harold Pinter, loves and hates Peter O'Toole, woos his beautiful wife Hildegard Neil and braves the shocking death toll on cosy TV drama My Family and Other Animals. Crammed with anecdotes from his illustrious career, this is a funny, warm-hearted, life-affirming, LOUD and unique memoir from a much-loved figure.

🎧 Recommendation, check! Childhood revisited, check!

Prince Vultan

King Yrcanos

For me, he outshined everyone in those productions and if you‘ve seen them you know that‘s quite a feat.

What a quirky lovable oddball character. He‘s led a very interesting life! I really enjoyed this book. So engaging you don‘t notice the time fly.

Mehso-so

So according to the books litsy page, 3 years after I said I was picking this one back up, I have finally finished it!

Brian‘s journey into acting and his various roles is great to read about. There was less of his exploits in mountaineering, little about his private life, and nothing much on his other explorations and endeavours than I would have preferred. However it was still an enjoyable read with the larger than life Blessed at the helm!👌🏻

A rough idea of books for #litsyatoz with @BookishMarginalia

The green books are ones I own already (most of which are on my tbr) and orange the next in a series that I plan on getting next year!

I have loads more on my tbr but they all have the same letters 😠 so we will see which of them I get around to first 😉

So exciting!

Lacythebookworm I've had so much fun going through my bookshelves looking for books that will fit! I'm planning to go the author's last name route. 📚📚📚❤️ 7y
Smrloomis Love the spreadsheet! 👍🏽 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag I'm going to completely free style it! 😱 also Brian Blessed is hilarious! I've seen him on UK panel shows (very occasionally) and he is just unreal! He belongs to another century! Brilliant storyteller tho! (Have you seen Flash Gordon? That was my very first BB sighting) 7y

Bookzombie I found myself having the same issue with so many of my owned books having the same letters. I like the way you have your list set up. :) 7y
Bookworm54 @Bookzombie @Smrloomis Thanks! 😍 @thegirlwiththelibrarybag he is an amazing man, sometimes he can be a bit loud for me on shows though haha. Haven't seen Flash Gordon though 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Bookworm54, I caught part of it on tv once. Timothy Dalton is in it as well. It's glorious and campy and entertaining plus it has songs from Queen! 7y

#octphotochallenge #reallifeperson #brianblessed

I started his autobiography, but then it got put away on a hard to reach bookshelf and I forgot about it until this challenge. Will be hunting it back down this weekend!

I find it hard to listen to Brian Blessed (he is a bit loud for me) but no one can deny that he's an amazing human being, and I love this man ❤️

I look forward to picking this back up and reading about his many exploits!
