Molly's Pilgrim
Molly's Pilgrim | Barbara Cohen
2 posts | 3 read
Sparkling new illustrations refresh this Thanksgiving classic based on the true experience of a member of Barbara Cohen's family. The touching story tells how recent immigrant Molly leads her third-grade class to discover that it takes all kinds of pilgrims to make a Thanksgiving. Originally published in 1983, Molly's Pilgrim inspired the 1986 Academy Award winning live-action short film.

Great children‘s book about what it takes to be a American in old-timely society.

Couldn't find the cover I grew up with, but this is the original, I believe. Read it every Thanksgiving. I loved this book for teaching empathy and highlighting my own cultural connection to the US. I loved imagining the mother painstakingly creating that doll. And I appreciate that the story expands American history beyond a one dimensional look at "Pilgrims" and "Indians." The American immigrant stories are much more layered. #FunFridayPhoto
