Small-Space Vegetable Gardens: Growing Great Edibles in Containers, Raised Beds, and Small Plots | Andrea Bellamy
3 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
“If I could recommend one book for small-space vegetable gardening, this would be it. Andrea Bellamy nailed it!” —Joe Lamp’l, Growing a Greener World Small-Space Vegetable Gardens explains the basics of growing a bounty of edibles in a minimal amount of space. Andrea Bellamy, author of the award-winning blog Heavy Petal, shares all the knowledge she’s gained from years of gardening small: how to find and assess a space, and how to plan and build a garden. Bellamy also highlights the top sixty edible plants and offers complete information on how to sow, grow, and harvest them. This hardworking and enthusiastic guide teaches gardeners how to take advantage of the space they have—whether it’s a balcony, a patio, a plot in a community garden, or even a small yard—to create the food garden of their dreams.

I actually got a small bit of garden planted this week! Looking forward to tomaties, Serrano peppers, and some hearbs to flavor my cooking.

This one has to go back to the library. It's good for beginners to small scale gardening. It's very similar to her book "Sugar Snaps and Strawberries." ?

arlenefinnigan Ooh might get my husband this as a moving in present. We're buying our first house and it's got a lovely big paved garden (instead of a scuzzy dirty little back yard that we currently have) and he's got his heart set on setting up a herb garden and maybe some tomatoes in it. 7y
RowReads1 @arlenefinnigan that's sweet of you. Congratulations on the house! That's exiting. Herb gardens are fun. Every year I get disappointed tomatoes don't grow better here. 7y

I picked this up at the end of last summer and am only just now getting to check it out more thoroughly. I saw the author show off a dwarf blueberry bush on Canadian TV and was immediately on board. She has some great planting tips for small yards. We'll see what I can take away for next year's balcony garden. #tokyomom #mommyreads #containergarden #gardening
