The Weight of Zero
The Weight of Zero | Karen Fortunati
21 posts | 15 read | 65 to read
Seventeen-year-old Catherine Pulaski knows Zero is coming for her. Zero, the devastating depression born of Catherines bipolar disorder, almost triumphed once; that was her first suicide attempt. Being bipolar is forever. It never goes away. The med du jour might work right now, but Zero will be back for her. Its only a matter of time. And so, in an old ballet-shoe box, Catherine stockpiles medications, preparing to take her own life before Zero can inflict its living death on her again. Before she goes, though, she starts a short bucket list. The bucket list, the support of her family, new friends, and a new course of treatment all begin to lessen Catherines sense of isolation. The problem is, her plan is already in place, and has been for so long that she might not be able to see a future beyond it. This is a story of loss and grief and hope, and how some of the many shapes of lovematernal, romantic, and platonicaffect a young womans struggle with mental illness and the stigma of treatment.

Sorry for my recent absence (busy weekend!) but some excitement today as my #BookDrop box arrived! Just reading the back makes me think it‘s going to be an intense read... the main girl is bipolar... but I do like a heavier and more “adult” YA reading experience, so we‘ll see.. 🧐

4 of the 7 books I read this month. 🖤
I'm a bit sad. I may have to throw Gray. KitKat had an accident. Her litterbox door was messed up and this book was on the floor where she did her business. At least I read it before this happened. So, that's a plus!

The Weight of Zero was, by far, my favorite book of the month. 🖤
It was a great reading month!

egg104 So impressed! I've been trying to up my reading game but seven books !!! Wow! I'm inspired ❤ 6y

It's about a teenage girl dealing with bi-polar and severe depression trying to navigate through life & school. Also, it touches on social class, racism and bullying. Mental illness is not talked about enough; Kids go through a lot as teenagers and young adults, that we as parents may not realize. I love the message this book provided. A must read for teenagers and young adults. 2 thumbs up and twist! #litsybythenumbers #chelleo

My heart.. 🖤
This book was incredible.
I related so much and felt so many feels.
And all the things I ever felt iffy about with this story ended up being explained. It was just so, so good. I'm so sad it's over.
I highly recommend if you're looking for a book involving bipolar disorder.
5/5 ⭐

Another book I started, and then couldn't put down. Told with brutal honesty and unabashed humor, it is the story of pain, anguish, and hope after a life-changing diagnosis. I read it with tears of sorrow and joy streaming down my face. For those that are lost, and for those that have the courage to be found. #mentalhealthmatters #powerful #notalone #ittakesavillage #bethereforsomeone #hope

It's a story about one young lady who sees her life through a focused lens due to circumstances beyond her control, but who also needs to be opened to the world around her to see that pain does end, grieving is good for the soul, and there are those that care even when all seems lost. Reaching out can be hard and reading Catherine's story, fictitious or not, was just as, but it also shines a light on the fact that these are real issues.

I've been buried under deadlines and working like a fool. Only a half day of crazy left before life becomes normal again. Here are just some of what I really want to to read instead of manuscripts. (Specific book details to come. This is your official teaser) #LifeOfAnEditor #HeartOfAReader

This book absolutely floored me. It tore me apart & rebuilt me, in the best possible way. It is by far the best depiction of depression that I‘ve read in a very long time. I spent the last half of the book in grateful tears, filled with a gut deep recognition that filled me with hope for life and love for Catherine. I cannot express enough what this book meant to me. Read it. It‘ll change you. - Flannery

Moving and thought-provoking story of a teen girl diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Recommended for fans of Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Wow, this book. I want to put this in every teen & adult with bipolar disorder. Such an authentic and hopeful book. This is the realistic portrait of mental health our teens need.
