Do Your Om Thing
Do Your Om Thing: Bending Yoga Tradition to Fit Your Modern Life | Rebecca Pacheco
Yoga, Meet Life. Sometimes an hour-long yoga class is the only chance we get to connect meaningfully with our bodies and our minds during a week otherwise full of work, family, and the daily grind. Have you ever wondered how would it feel to bring that experience of awareness and calm out of the yoga studio and into your everyday life? After all, we know that practicing yoga can give us a leaner body and more sculpted limbs, but isn't its most important benefit the way it makes us feel? In Do Your Om Thing, master yoga teacher and creator of the popular blog OmGal.com Rebecca Pacheco shows us that the true practice of yoga is about much more than achieving the perfect headstand or withstanding an hour-long class in a room heated to 100 degrees. "Yoga is not about performance," she tells us, "it's about practice, on your mat and in your life. If you want to get better at anything what should you do? Practice. Confidence, compassion, awareness, joyif you want more of theseand who doesn't?yoga offers the skills to practice them." In her warm, personal, and often hilarious prose, Rebecca translates yogic philosophy for its twenty-first-century devotees, making ancient principles and philosophy feel accessible, relatable, and genuinely rooted in the world in which we live today. And by illuminating how the guiding principles of yoga apply to our modern lives, Rebecca shows us that the true power of a yoga practice is not physical transformation, but mental and spiritual liberation.

HPB haul. Top left sounded like an interesting light mystery, too right I‘ve read but wanted my own copy. Bottom is for my son. Lord that sounds strange to me 😂

Nothing makes me prouder than being described as a reader. I'm helping out a friend by subbing her Saturday morning Yoga Class. This is how she introduced me on her Studio's Facebook. #proudbookworm 🐉

Texreader Sounds pretty awesome!! 6y
mcipher Nice!! What kind of yoga do you teach, anything in particular? I‘m in the middle of my 200 hours right now. ☺️ 6y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @mcipher I teach Gentle Vinyassa Flow and Restorative Yoga. My focus is on helping people deal with aches and pains and especially stress. Yoga was my haven in the midst of helping to take care of my elderly parents. We all need a little calm in the midst of the crazy. 6y

Crinoline_Laphroaig @mcipher What about you? What's your plan? I'm off to bed now (need to be rested for tomorrow) but look for to hearing from you. 6y
mcipher Have a great class tomorrow! I want to teach a Hatha style yoga with some glow and eventually yoga therapy and free classes for low-income pregnant women (my own “yoga saved me” thing). My program is in recovery yoga but several of the teachers are more in the power/Baptiste area so it‘s an interesting mix! 6y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @mcipher That sounds amazing! I love how yoga fits for whatever stage of life you are in. My friend I subbed for today is taking Prenatal training. She's half my age and a new mom. Myself I'm soon to be 52 and my practice is about aging gracefully. But no matter where you are in life, it's all about being happy a healthy. 6y
mcipher Yeah! It‘s awesome how it is perfect for wherever you are and you find the practice that fits. 😍 6y

4/5 ⭐️Overall, this book was funny, down to earth, and enjoyable for a beginner who craves to learn more. The last section on spirituality became redundant and didn't feel like it offered hardly any new or differing insights.

I read this awhile back and just absolutely adored it. Inspirational, yet practical. It's your path. You get to decide. Or as my favorite Yoga Teacher said today "Yoga Bodies- It's not all Kale Chips and Booty Shorts"

This is my #bookishhoroscope for 2017. "As such, the crown chakra, located atop the head (where your soft spot was as a baby), is known as the physical home of your enlightenment." Looks like I'll be having an enlightening year!! ?

To find your #bookishhoroscope, pick up the book nearest you and turn to page 117. The second sentence is your horoscope!

Lucy and I are cuddled up reading. I just started this one. It is good so far. She seems to have an interesting perspective on being a normal modern person and a yogi sans all the perfection garbage. This is one of the books I got for Christmas. I needed a break from the Throne of Glass series but I will get back to it.

Great book. Incredibly accessible. So much goodness in here. Finished and plan to start again, it's so chock full.

Great pairing to my yoga class this morning - just before the family arrives and the fun and chaos begins!

RiotMom I could use this in my life right now. 😊 7y
