Not exactly “beach reads,” but that‘s okay, since the closest I‘ll be getting to the beach this summer is Shark Week.

😳 I‘ve been bailing left & right on audiobooks, including the tagged novel, The Wren the Wren, two Toibin novels, among others.

I‘m in an audio drought. 🏜️🌵

Leftcoastzen It could be just me but honestly, I find it hard to listen to literary fiction in audio format. A good mystery, thriller, or compelling non fiction works for me. 5d
TheBookHippie I cannot do audio at all so … 🤣😵‍💫😅 5d
Tamra @Leftcoastzen I think that is true - I‘ve noticed the same. Requires more concentration. 5d

Tamra @TheBookHippie gotta be the right book! 😉 5d
BarbaraBB I bailed on The Wren in print too and I didn‘t like your tagged book either. So maybe it‘s not you but the books 😀 5d
Cuilin I also bailed on the Wren, and I usually love her writing. 5d
squirrelbrain I really disliked the tagged, and can‘t imagine listening to it, so I don‘t think it‘s you. 5d
Tamra @BarbaraBB @Cuilin @squirrelbrain glad I‘m not alone! 😅 5d
Tamra @Cuilin I think I need to try another. 5d
Cuilin @Tamra wonderful but incredibly sad story of hers that I recommend is 5d
Tamra @Cuilin thank you for the recommendation! Stacking 5d
Ruthiella I‘m with @Leftcoastzen . I prefer audio books with a strong plot. I also prefer series via audio because you have a built in familiarity with it. 5d
jlhammar I hate when that happens! I also bailed on The Wren, The Wren audiobook. Hope you land on a good one soon 🎧 4d
Tamra @Ruthiella strong plot definitely makes an audio easier to follow. 👍🏾 (edited) 4d
Tamra @jlhammar 🤞🏾 Just a matter of time. But it‘s funny how dry spells run in streaks. 4d

Finished Book 5 of the Rockton Series. A baby is found under a dead woman in the snow. Now they have to find the parents. I love the characters here. A town where criminals or people running away from something come to live for 2 years. I found 2 bingo spots for #ISpyBingoMay. @Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks #ReadAway24 #SeriesLove24 @Andrew65 @TheSpineView @DieAReader @GHABI4ROSES

5⭐ A sequel to The Marrow Thieves. I don't know if there will be more in the series because the author didn't plan it that way but wrote more when requested by her publisher. But I will read. Dystopian, Indigenous Peoples, young adult.

TieDyeDude I saw this. I enjoyed Marrow Thieves; didn't love it, but I am interesting in continuing the story. Thanks for sharing. 2w

Definitely recommended📚

A wonderful story/history with oh so many feels❤️‍🔥 I took my time & listened to many of their songs, on Spotify, throughout this read.🤓

I think I would have enjoyed this more as an audiobook, only because I found it to be a bit dense & therefore a slog at times.

Really really good. At one level it tells the story of his grandparents. On one side of the family they were Canadians of Japanese descent who were interned in Alberta in WWII. On the other side his grandfather was a soldier captured in Hong Kong who spent 4 years in a Japanese pow camp. At another level it‘s about forgiving ourselves.
“Forgiveness has nothing to do with the past”.
