Librarybelle I‘ve not really necessarily followed this thought. I wouldn‘t say this solution follows this, either, but I am admittedly not the deepest thinker. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 13h
CrystalE02 Sometimes I can. It depends on the situation. 9h
Aimeesue Most of the time you can, as far as crimes go. There are only so many people who could have committed a particular crime. If 3 out of 4 suspects have alibis, it‘s not looking good for #4, unless you can poke holes in an alibi. The tough part is figuring how it was done. Heart of the detective novel, right? 3h
CogsOfEncouragement Much of the time you can figure out what happened, and these stories are enjoyable because Holmes can figure them out. Yet I think that sometimes truth is stranger than fiction and justice is not always served. 1h
IndoorDame I‘m going to vote for no. I actually tried to reason this one out (usually I just enjoy the story) and I got a few pieces right but most wrong, but Holmes and I thought through a few totally different suspects, and that‘s just in a short story with limited possibilities, real life is infinitely more random and complex… 60m

I read about one-third of Out With the Tide (#18) and set it down. Meh. I may pick it up again in the near future. I'm about to start The Third Chapter (#4).

I've also read Nick of Time by Cathi Stoler. I'm also part way through Out of Time by the same author.

Um, this doesn‘t seem accurate 🤔 Goodreads has this title as #4 in the ‘Harbinder Kaur‘ series and the titles on the left page has the other works in that series under the “Other Works” section, but the title page has that it‘s a Ruth Galloway Mystery….? Am I taking crazy pills? 🫠

Amie That's so weird! The description sounds like it's Harbinder Kaur. That's a pretty big error! 3w
Aims42 @Amie Thank you for validating my shock 🤩I‘ve been searching the publisher‘s website for any info and nothing there. It just seems so weird! 3w
Aims42 @Amie I just messaged the publisher on Instagram. I‘m just soooo curious lol If I hear anything back I‘ll let you know 🤞 3w

Aims42 @Amie @jlhammar I heard back from the publisher today (on a Sunday, I was shocked!) and they said, “Amy wow thank you. We will correct that on the reprint.” So, this will be the version that antiques roadshow will be looking for in 100ish years 😂 3w
jlhammar I can‘t believe no one noticed before it went to print (or before you so kindly brought it to their attention apparently)! 3w
Aims42 @jlhammar Right?? 😳🤯 3w

Pickpick

Oh man, I feel like I need more days to digest this book. This is my first Ruth Ozeki book and it won't be the last. Usually, I am not a big fan of authors doing their own book narrations, but Ruth did a fantastic job. She sure is a wonderful storyteller!

The themes of bullying and suicide were very prominent, so there are definitely trigger warnings. However, I felt I learned so much about Japanese culture and I found it fascinating how ⬇️

vonnie862 Ruth writes herself and her husband as characters. It makes me wonder if this was a true story. Ruth mentioned that listening to the audio is one experience and that reading the print is another. Looks like I need to buy the physical copy! 4w
Graywacke Glad you enjoyed. Your comments are interesting to me because I struggled with her reading it herself. 🙂 4w

This woman is out of this world and I‘ve been totally consumed by these DOUBLE albums Taylor Swift dropped on 4/19. THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT AND ANTHOLOGY 31 songs of heartbreak! Sooo much to unpack. And she‘s getting literary, a clashing of my favorite things: Taylor and literature! Apologies as this is a music interlude but it is book adjacent! What do you all think of the album?

slategreyskies I love it! Especially the “You‘re not Dylan Thomas, and I‘m not Patti Smith” line. I‘m really enjoying this album! 💕 4w
Chelsea.Poole @slategreyskies yesss!! I actually had the chance to go to Dylan Thomas‘s house in Wales, and I‘ve always been interested in him. I like that she‘s calling out herself as well throughout, taking ownership for what she‘s done too. “We‘re modern idiots” 4w
Jas16 Love it. 4w

I like reading about other people getting their exercise. You keep walking weird, I'll keep reading weird!
I might've expected the hardcover to be a collection of articles from the zines of this collective of ramblers through the British pagan countryside, but I didn't think of it, so now I'm less sure about collecting all the zine issues, but that petty quibble aside, this is a lovely book in the tradition of Julian Cope's The Modern Antiquarian.

vivastory Book title made me think of one of this classic comedy skit

Bookwomble @vivastory 😄 Yes, it had put that sketch in my mind, too. Also Max Wall's variety act, and that of Wilson, Keppell and Betty, that the Pythons were definitely channeling. 1mo
Bookwomble I think I may have been mistaken in thinking that the articles are lifted wholesale from the zines. The foreword by Stewart Lee is certainly adapted, and enlarged, from zine #4, but comments within the text suggest that the book contains new material. I guess I'll only know if I buy the zines! 🤷‍♂️ 4w
