Ohhhhhh yes. I can't wait to start this - if you haven't read her book Our Endless Numbered Days, run don't walk. Sooooo good

The Fifth Season | N. K. Jemisin

I've had this one for awhile, but I've moved it up in the stack due to the Hugos! I've flown through the first half - great characters and the perfect amount of worldbuilding for me (i like unique settings but hate being confused).

I LOVED THIS BOOK SO FREAKING MUCH. I love cultural histories that look through a very unique lens, and this book rang all of my bells. I dig the spooky subject, but this book also illuminates so much about American history and culture. All the stars, and bonus stars for featuring the Ridges, which I've visited and felt creeped out by due to all of the reasons mentioned in Chapter Ten: The Stain. Look for this one in October!

Peterdamien Oh gosh, I have gotta read this 8y

I held off on reading this for as long as possible so that I wouldn't have to wait a long time for the next one, but I needed a fun read this week AND DAMMIT I CAVED. Nothing pulls me out of a reading rut like one of V.E. Schwab's novels.

Chachic This was a good one! It's going to be a long wait for the final book. 8y

Ordinary Light: A memoir | Tracy K. Smith
post image
Pickpick

It's so difficult to describe this book as it's just such an incredible reflection on life. Every chapter felt profoundly meaningful to me, despite how different my life is from that of the author. This is a beautiful memoir about family, race, art, and the heartache of growing into adulthood.

MrBook Nice review! 😊👍🏻 8y

I'm in week one of a community reads screening process, and it's so great for catching up on some paperback backlist. This memoir is incredible! It's so difficult to explain what it's about because it's just LIFE written in the most beautiful way. I can't get enough.

CrossTalk | Connie Willis

Brought some reading to the park today! This is my first Connie Willis, and while the sheer amount of dialogue took some getting used to, I can't stop thinking about these characters. One of my new favorite authors for sure.

coffeenebula Ancillary Justice was really good & I love everything Connie Willis. Didn't know she had a new book out! To Say Nothing of the Dog is my favorite. 8y

Lab Girl | Hope Jahren
Pickpick

Absolutely devoured this memoir by an amazing scientist who also happens to be a lady. I loved the chapters on plants, but I loved learning about Jahren's life as a dedicated scientist and her friendship with her main lab partner Bill even more.
