How frugal are the chariots that bear the human soul.

I was shocked at the closed-minded attitude in this book. The academic jargon was peppered with a role call of internet history, and yet no ideas or even explanation. I had hoped this book would be a starting point for topical and interesting discussion.

Loved it. Everyone who uses the Internet should read this book.

While proving me wrong that David Sedaris is famous enough that every American would recogize his books, i described to my boyfriend that David Sedaris is a professional people-person; not extroverted, but more in an anthropological musings way.
His writing is funny and clever and usually gives me new perspective, while reminding me that i am never alone in the things i imagine about people on public transpiration.

I continue to adore David Sedaris. His gross wit, honest charm, amazing travel, gift with seeing the amazing in such normal life...it is a perfect subway read. I collect his books lovingly, and always want to pass them on when I'm finished. Favorite essay here may be Author, Author.

Coyote Blue | Christopher Moore

Big fan of Christopher Moore, but this was not my favorite book of his. He has a gift for characters, and i very much enjoyed the message of finding more to life as an adult than simply a job and a car.

The jampocalypse! The magic was in the calm reaction to absurdity, and the author's stunning gift for simile. The message was a hint to do more with the gift of life than waste away at a mall or office. The method was grey goo scenario- maneating strawberry jam. This might turn out to be the most accurate doomsday scenario of them all.

I have learned that John Green is truly personal with all his books, and there is clearly some human experience in this new novel. It's nearly a horror story, carefully wrapped in an exploration of teenage friendship. I loved it and it made me feel queasy. I appreciate John's effort to explain the demons inside, and i hope this perspective helps bridge understanding in mental health. Turtles.

Dune Messiah | Frank Herbert

At long last, I finished this second chapter in the Dune series. I get frustrated with the scenes deep within Paul's head, but I love Chani and Alia and the poetic writing style. Perhaps I should have read it aloud. It was refreshing to be reminded though of the vast and terrible purpose - this story spans generations.

My first John Green! I love how personal the story is, and the awareness of layers when close to adolescent libido. Such honesty is warm and beautiful. I would recommend this for all teenagers, for it stirs all the emotions you will soon feel as you become an adult.

Is that a horizon? This comic is a gorgeous and generous allegory of freedom, impact, and perspectives set in Iraq after the American bombings of Baghdad. Four lions from the zoo escape and show us a modern day fable for identifying a perceived enemy.

My traveled, battered library copy of The Outsiders seems in itself a methphor of the story. Within this old book is a golden treasure of timeless story. I wish I had read it in high school and will likely read it again.

The incorporation and obsession of food into the crime drama genre is creative and so perfectly weird. It's gross and fantastic and remarkably investing, and the constant contrast of extremes is a fun theme to explore.

Addendum to my review. One week after reading this book I realized how suddenly conscious I am of other people, kindly. Suddenly I am kinder to strangers and making strong efforts to reach out to old friends. I hope this effect lasts, for both me and future readers.

This book will be with me for a long time. While a heavy topic, it's a beautiful story with very real characters, fantastic dual dialog, and a charming use of out-dated technology. We are all stuck here together, so we may as well be nice to each other.

1984 | George Orwell

I feel very mixed about this book...it was terrifying and illuminating like a room full of florescents. I am pleased that it was so unexpected, and i certainly recommended that everyone read it.
