Crazy Rich Asians | Kevin Kwan
Pickpick

I couldn‘t put this book down! It felt like a getaway for me as much as the characters. I was looking up the locales and food from the book. All of the characters had plots that were interesting. I‘m looking forward to reading everything Kevin Kwan writes.

Loved this book, the relevance to today's society, and the varied perspectives.

Renegades | Marissa Meyer

This book kept me hooked from beginning to end. I can't wait to share it with my students. I liked the multiple viewpoints of what society needs to re-establish itself after the battle between Renegades and Anarchists. The characters were complex, and I can't wait to see what happens to them next!

Artemis | Andy Weir

This book, for me, was such a let down. I was really looking forward to it, because I loved The Martian. I didn't like the protagonist and had no emotional connection to her. She was a greedy, selfish brat who did stupid things without fair consequences. She didn't care enough about the impact she had on others. I was looking forward to the science, but it wasn't enough for me to enjoy this book.

Big Little Lies | Liane Moriarty

I was late to the party on this one. Now I can binge watch the HBO show by the same name. I enjoyed the relationships between the female characters. I was mad for the main character that her son was being wrongly accused and mistreated. The ending was not what I expected, but it was satisfying. I look forward to reading other books by this author.

This book was bittersweet. I hated the struggle of the main character. It reminded me vaguely of A Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling, where a teen did what she thought was right to protect her family, but outside influences and lack of communication cause devastation.

I like how events were alluded to in the beginning, but not clarified until later. I also like feeling like I'm peeking into the characters lives, wishing I could tell them what they don't know about each other. It was easy to empathize with the characters and see things from each perspective. I love this author's writing style.

Origin | Dan Brown

Origin is similar to other Robert Langdon books. I enjoyed the connection to Gaudi's art.

Mileva Maric is not a household name, yet she was part of some of the greatest scientific theories of the 20th century, though to what extent is a mystery. Her marriage to Albert Einstein was tumultuous and intriguing. I enjoyed and was saddened by this novel.
