The Woman in Me | Britney Spears
Pickpick

I really enjoyed this book. Britney isn't a poetic writer but it was very raw and honest. It truly helps you understand her life and how unfair the public/press was to her growing up. And the terrible conservatorship she was under and how it was allowed to happen for so long is astounding. I really feel for her and it gives you a glimpse of what she went through and is still in the process of healing from it.

Crying in H Mart: A Memoir | Michelle Zauner
Pickpick

I found this book relatable as a Chinese-American (though author is a mix of Korean). I also cried at parts of the book. The author' special relationship with her mom is reflected in this beautiful memoir.

This book was all over the place. The writer did give a lot of detail to the crimes of the Garden State Killer, but as far as the pursuit of finding him and what she did to help the case (if at all) wasn't explained or detailed. I found myself bored... And it's not a boring topic.

It is unfortunate that the author died before the capture of the killer, but I did not like how the book told me she was a great writer (multiple times). I disagree.

This was an easy read and fairly enjoyable throughout. But I can't help think about what is the point of the book?

There were various relationships at play between mother and daughter - biological and unbiological, but I was left unsatisfied at the end feeling a little lost. Maybe that was the point - since relationships are so complex. But I felt I wasn't given enough insight into these dynamics and just saw the surface. And then the end.

It was interesting to hear origins of HeLa cells (though I didn't know the importance of them before reading this book). I understand how it was important to tell the story of Henrietta's family, but thought it was a little drawn out.

It did paint a picture for both sides of the debate of who should own the rights for ones tissue. That it's not so black and white. But it felt like an afterthought to the book.

Interesting book but a little slow. Definitely learned a lot about the Osage tribe and how the government was ran back then. Very sad to hear about this part of American history, but good to know what happened.

Boo and yawn.

Kya is all of a sudden this girl who knows Latin names for species when she never went to school. Oh ok. Not to mention she's gorgeous!!!

I don't think I stopped rolling my eyes the entire read. The read is a bit cheesy and a bore. No reason behind anything.

Becoming | Michelle Obama
Pickpick

I loved the honesty Michelle gives on her experience as First Lady and her development in her life.

It's interesting to read about how she met Obama and how she had (and has) not interest in politics. Her insights and honesty is refreshing.

Only complaint would be she reads very slowly (audiobook). Thank goodness it's possible to speed it up. 1.5x 😂

Alexander Hamilton | Ron Chernow
Bailedbailed

I really wanted to like this but I couldn't!
I listened to most of it (audiobook) and it kept making me sleepy on my commutes. I had to stop listening for fear of making me pass out while I was driving.

I did really want to learn about Hamilton especially with the Broadway show being so popular... But maybe it was the guy's voice but it wasn't for me

Overall a great book about the highs and lows of Knight's life and the creation of Nike. There is a slight layer of pretentiousness. Knight reminds you throughout the book that he's travelled the world. That his "not-rich" father paid for (though not sure if anyone not well off would ever fund that... Or provide cash to start his son's company). Also I think Johnson was the main driving force behind how Blue Ribbon became Nike. #swoosh

Seabiscuit: An American Legend | Laura Hillenbrand
Pickpick

Great book! I didn't care about horse racing before reading this book but I'm a huge fan of Unbroken and read it just because Laura Hillenbrand is an amazing writer. In the end I too fell in love with Seabiscuit and had my heart in all the races as Hillenbrand so magically depicted them.

Unbroken | Laura Hillenbrand
Pickpick

Laura Hillenbrand is one of the best writers. She portrays the struggles of Louie with such detail - you agonize with him.

Inspiring story! Definitely do not judge the story by the movie. The book is truly amazing in how it tells the real life story.

My favorite book of all time!

This book is inspiring for anyone. Charlamagne talks about the hard work he put in to get where he is. His life is blessed bc he worked for it.

This book has inspired me to believe in myself and also not take anyone or any experience for granted.

He is honest and hilarious and I enjoyed this book very much!
