Caraval | Stephanie Garber

Despite its literary shortcomings (you'll find the link to the full book review in my bio), I appreciate Caraval for how it touches on bravery, unconditional love, and the damage dishonesty and cruelty can do to people. 3/5⭐️ #youngadultfiction #youngadultbooks #caraval #fantasy

Coraline | Neil Gaiman

Pickpick

I can't remember a book that scared me as much as Coraline did. I think it's the first dark fantasy/horror story I've read, and I love it for everything that it is—weird, eerie, and frightening. Its rich and unnerving imagery combined with Coraline's bravery and quick thinking in the face of evil made this book extremely difficult to put down, even at 1AM in the morning. I probably would've died if I had been in her place. #fiction #readling

Norse Mythology | Neil Gaiman

Pickpick

Inserting dialogue into what is often a distant and objective retelling gave the myths new life and breath. I enjoyed the writing most of all—how the tone turned light to dark, the vulnerability and imperfection that compels us to question the notion of ‘god‘, the importance of sacrifice to renew and rebuild. 🌊 One thing I couldn‘t shake off though was seeing Chris Hemsworth‘s and Tom Hiddleston‘s faces while reading. Damn you, Marvel. 😆

Stardust | Neil Gaiman

I‘m so glad I chose Stardust as my introduction to Neil Gaiman‘s work. The adventure kept me on my toes and filled my heart with excitement and fear. The ending was ultimately bittersweet yet free of unnecessary sentimentality, and I love it and wouldn‘t have it any other way. 🧚‍♀️ #readinglist2018 #amreading #books #booksofinstagram #fantasy #fiction

It's a 3/5 for this one. It's another example where the title doesn't necessarily reflect its content. Similar to the 2nd book, the bungalow's significance doesn't actually surface until Nancy's final chase. The criminals in The Bungalow Mystery were a teeny bit more aggressive than those in the last two books, but not very instinctive to know that Nancy's actually hiding nearby 🤔 (seriously, girl's gotta extra careful!).

I liked the second book more because the first few chapters actually spooked me to the point of leaving me on edge. 😬 The funny thing though is the hidden staircase doesn‘t actually appear in the book till later. The title should‘ve been The Ghost at Twin Elms Mansion since the setting was 90% of the story. 🤞the third book will be even scarier!

The Nancy Drew series was one of the first collections that sparked my hunger and passion for literature. There were a couple of things that slot the series as young adult—even children's—literature. Nancy's particularly loud thoughts perhaps intends for the reader to cheer for her. There were a couple of rookie grammar mistakes here and there, and that super obvious indication of what's to come in the next book made me laugh out loud. 😆

I bought my copy from Kinokuniya Malaysia back in 2013 and didn't bother to even remove its wrapping until 12 days ago. I told myself that I would relax from the hustling I did when I started and lost my 2nd business, but here's this book stirring ideas for a new business. Now where to begin? 😁

Hjones1911 And definitely check out his book "Born for This" as well 8y
heystef Thanks @Hjones1911! The title sounds familiar. Will check it out when I have the time. 😊 7y
