Lolita | Nabokov Vladimir
Pickpick

You can't pass into adulthood and not read this book. Incredible prose, such a sad story. And given this is about a pedophile, we don't hate Humbert Humbert as much as he deserves. This clearly showcases the sheer literary genius of Nobokov. And how those words play magic. Hugely statisfying read. Oh god. Why don't people write more books like this.

I am fully aware my opinion may be minority. I did not like this book that much. The story of two terminally ill kids smart talking and falling in love is bound to be blockbuster. But the author overdid the sympathy card. Yes it's sad, yes it's unfortunate but no, it did not make me cry or shake me within. The author should not have exploited the reader with standard cliche of death of the youth. That's not good writing.

Little Friend | Donna Tartt
Pickpick

A family tragedy as told by a little girl who lived the aftermath of sudden mysterious death of her brother. Quirky, poignant and powerful, the telling was very authentic. A bit longish, it could've been edited a little better. Regardless the book stayed with me long after I finished.

Despair | Vladimir Nabokov

Master of prose I picked this up after Lolita with high hopes. The voice of the author was so strong frankly I was put off. It was a show off page after page when after 40 odd pages I couldn't do it anymore. And for good measure I even sold this book off. Dissapointing!

An incredible book, easily one of the best I have read. A terrific story of a young girl breaking free from norms of her everyday life as a wife, daughter by simply stopping eating meat. Just this simple act creates such a turbulence, her life is changed forever. The sexuality of her brother in law desiring her gave me goose bumps. Plus throw in realism as authentic as Murakami. Absolute must read!
