Hey, my name is Lys, and I'm a Trans guy trying to figure out who the hell he actually is.
Thomas Page McBee's words have been so damn valuable in that journey so far.

It is time to know my origin, my history, my culture.

I might be invited to co-run a panel with #razielreid at the @calgarylibrary this year. So I snagged his book to read (been picking it up and putting it down for a while now)
Showed my mom, put it down on the table
I might not be getting it back any time soon :-)

Life ate me up and just recently spat me out. But I'm back, and ready for 2017 to be a literary year. I'm pushing for the #2017ReadHarderChallenge by @bookriot , I have two novels I'm currently working on (one fan fiction, one a collection of personal narrative), and the queue for my blog is slowly growing.
Still amazed to come back to Litsy and see that I have a nice handful of followers. Be ready to hear more from me.
So...what'd I miss?

And with that, I am done. I was so excited for this book, but all I've ended up with is anger at a man that continues to blame his alcoholism and failed work on a child who desperately wants to be loved. This sort of narrative is already too real in our world, and it has led to the murder of too many Autistic individuals. I don't need to be reading a narrative that supports the ideas that lead to those killings.
Rating: DNF

Shelf Life Books is newer. I always landmark it by the tower of counted crows that sits on the corner. Inside, the floors do not mumble at you. The speakers crackle and whisper to you instead, melding tunes together while you search through the shelves. The staff gently chatter in the background, almost creating that café appeal. You can listen close and catch snippets of those stories while looking for one to take home.

I'm visiting both of my beloved indi stores today. The first is Pages in Kensington, my original foray into the independent book store culture. As the area marches on and forward, ever changing, this place holds fast. The wood floors creak as you slowly scan shelves, the stairs groan as you scan the artwork and authors that call this place home, and the second floor sighs with your inability to decide on a book. The whole store envelopes you.

The Wonder | Emma Donoghue

I strive to devour all things bookish. Even #CBCradio "The Next Chapter" isn't safe from me. Currently listening to Emma Donoghue discuss the themes of motherhood in her book The Wonder. And even though my TBR is in the hundreds, this one might end up on it as well.
How about you? Do you have any bookish radio shows or podcasts you enjoy?

HiddenGemBooks What are some good bookish podcasts? I don't know if any specifically 😯 3y
This_Accidental_Hipster @cookiejanester the Candy Palmer Show isn't specifically books, but she's amazing and has done pieces on Canadian authors. CBC Writers and Company is of course a neat piece. The Imposter is only six episodes in, but I have hope for it becoming a huge hit, and it covers ALL media along with books, movies, music. Then there's The New Yorkers "The Writers Voice" and New York Times "Book Review" 3y
This_Accidental_Hipster @cookiejanester Witch, Please is totally dedicated to Harry Potter. Imaginary Worlds is a must if you're even REMOTELY interested in SciFi and Fantasy. And our beloved @bookriot has a show called All the Books! 3y
courtney Beaks & Geeks, All the Books, What Should I Read Next?, and Slate Audio Book Club are a few of my favorites! 3y

The other book from my #Scentsy book haul today. I totally judged this book by the cover.
And then by the blurb
And now I'm pretty stoked to read this one. Love me some #scifi

readingjedi I'm not a huge lover of scifi but this sounds intriguing. 3y
This_Accidental_Hipster @readingjedi my Sci fi usually sits on the border of speculative fiction, thus why I snagged this one. It seems to be sitting very comfortably on that border 3y
MrBook It's a very popular one on here 😊👍🏻. 3y
This_Accidental_Hipster @MrBook I'm seeing that now. And it was totally a random pull from the shelf. I guess I'm in good company 3y

Thank you #Scentsy for helping me afford this gem of a book. Honestly I could go for days about the detail! The dimensioned spine, the thick paper, the gorgeous pictures, having a physical copy of the lyrics THAT I HAVE BEEN SCRIPTING FOR WEEKS NOW!
If it wasn't for my kickass August, I would be pushing this purchase off for a long time.
