So I've been away for a long while but I'm back and this time I mean business. I've got a pile of new books and I'm ready for 2019!
This is my first book of the year (although I'm simultaneously reading Michelle Obamas Becoming).
It is such a brilliant book. I laughed, a lot. I cried, a lot. I cried so much so in places that I had to stop reading it on the bus ride home! Devastating, funny, warm, honest and with a lot of love.

What can I say? As emotional and heartbreaking as you would expect it to be.

Highly recommend.

Circe | Madeline Miller
Pickpick

It's taken me a bit longer than usual to get this book read. Life got in the way but I've finally made my way through it and I'm so glad that I did.

It's not my usual choice of writing and I was a bit doubtful that I'd enjoy it but enjoy it I did. As before, dad and I were doing a mini book club and he finished long before me.

I think we can safely say this was a hit all round. Madeline certainly knows how to weave a story.

My dad has lived in the States for quite some time so we don't get to "do" much together. This week however, marks our first mini book club.

We are both reading Circe. I suspect he may finish it before I do but we are at least doing something together and that's the point.

Mehso-so

I really wanted to live this book as I'm a little bit of a space geek but only ended up liking it. While I felt that I really got to know Chris and really enjoyed his experiences in space (and on earth) I also felt the book dragged (if that's the right descriptive word) in places and could maybe have had a bit more pace.

I would definitely still add this to the recommend list though as it's still a good read.

Definitely take after my dad (proud owner of a LOT of books)

Another 3 books added to the pile of books I'm yet to read.... Still, they make a good decorative feature!

First up from the new pile (alongside the book I'm already reading)....

When Breath Becomes Air | Paul Kalanithi

There are parts of this, beautifully written, book that are going to stick with me for a while.

Reading about Pauls life leading up to his diagnosis and then post diagnosis it did feel that I was in his shoes for a time I became that immersed in his story. His story of life, love, career and the inevitable, death. A story that, when I purchased the book I'll be honest, I thought was going to be depressing turned out to be quite uplifting.

I wanted to dislike this book, I have no clue why. I didn't. Equally as funny as it is horrifying. That horrifying that on occasion I did find myself actually wanting to physically move away from the book but then by the next page I found myself being thoroughly amused! On to the next one....

Loved this book so much. Picked it up at the airport as I knew the film was being released and with adaptations I like to read the book before I see the film.
Reading through Jeanette's rough and tough upbringing brought all kinds of pictures into my imagination. Kids pulling together in the darkest of times but always able to see the light.

Incredible book and more than worthy of its best seller status.
