Post apocalyptic tale. This book is the reason I'm fascinated with this subject. Made such an impression on me as a young teenager. Love Nevil Shute and have read this and A Town like Alice so many times over the years that they are like old friends.

Cracking read. First read it about 30 years ago. Still love it today. My daughter @Bethritchie loved it too so it's dated ok. An epic tale of the agonies of forbidden love.

Elephant Moon | John Sweeney

Loved this book. The novel is based on a true story of the Second World War when a herd of 53 elephants was used by a young English schoolteacher to rescue a band of orphans in Burma and transport them to India. It's beautifully written, filled with love and bravery. Was so sad to finish it as I felt like I was saying goodbye to a friend.
