Historical fiction. A very bad account of the men and elephants that helped the refugees flee Myanmar after the British abandoned the country during WW2 and the Japanese invasion.
This account is as flat as a pancake. I've seen puddles with more depth than the characters here and please, this author should be legally banned from ever writing a female lead again. While I appreciate the authors journalist achievements, this is a terrible novel.

TrishB But a great review😁 3y
SamAnne LOL. “I‘ve seen puddles with more depth.” Can I steal that line? 🤣😂😂😂 3y

Loved this book. The novel is based on a true story of the Second World War when a herd of 53 elephants was used by a young English schoolteacher to rescue a band of orphans in Burma and transport them to India. It's beautifully written, filled with love and bravery. Was so sad to finish it as I felt like I was saying goodbye to a friend.
