One of my favorite traditions came from the Daytona Beach National Writing Project. I read my students The Important Book on the last day of school and then surprise them with their own poem. The only down side is fighting back the tears as I read the poems on the last day my kiddos are officially mine!

My 5th graders are loving the amazing stories from this book. I love looking up and seeing their reactions to the emotional content!
