I love Bret Easton Ellis. His brain makes me happy when I get to peak inside. This is the rare case when a sequel is better than the original. I love how meta it is and how it deconstructs the first novel by constantly referring to things that are false. It feels fresh, modern. I loved revisiting the relationship of Clay and Julian, seeing what Clay has become. He's a much more depraved character not a clear monster like Rip but on his way.

This book is creepy in the way that only a tale of horrific acts performed by children can be. It scared me, but I couldn't put it down. I 💚Joyce Carol Oates, and she creeps me out, too.

I read this book as a teenage girl living in an emotional chaos that seemed hopeless and eternal at the time. This book captures that feeling of helplessness, unique to childhood, when you are living a life that is someone else's design. I felt understood. Rereading it as an adult, it holds up quite well. Rereading it again soon in anticipation of The Secret History of Twin Peaks. I highly recommend this dark and beautiful little book.

This book is like a map of my heart. It is heartbreaking and nostalgic. One of my favorite books ever.

I loved Clarissa Explains It All and eagerly anticipated this book. I thought the title was genius. Nostalgia aside, I couldn't stick with this book. I liked it at first but as it continued, I frankly lost interest, and I can't exactly say why that is. I just didn't really latch on to any of the characters or feel any depth. I guess it's one of those things I can't explain.

I absolutely love this book. It is funny and intelligent and very heartfelt. My husband "doesn't like" Amy Schumer. I read him a particular passage I thought was funny, and he really enjoyed it enough to ask, "Who is this?" He was pleasantly surprised, and I think many people would enjoy this book who might not think they would.
