Pickpick

I enjoyed Americanah for so many reasons. There is a line that books are never about one thing, which is true here.
To do it no justice...
There are interesting discussions about facing sexism and racism which were eye opening and challenging.
The storyline is engaging, the characters and their relationships are brilliant.
The use of a blog to give a new perspective was also really clever and powerful.
Another that I'd recommend to all.

I was recommended this book as protests broke out following the death of George Floyd and as Black Lives Matter was on headlines in the UK.

I knew very little about race and the struggles faced and thought being 'colour blind' was okay and enough. This book discusses structural racism, and racism in feminism and class. It has helped me learn and asks for action to bring justice. It focuses on the UK.

I recommend to all

TrishB I agree, this one changed my outlook completely. Not enough to just not be racist, have to be anti- racist. 4y

Nik has lived some life and advocates getting off the conveyor belt of 9-5 for 40 years then retiring. Ambitious stuff, some of the examples are gimmicky and the financial advice around growth, momentum and options are shaky and dangerously framed. But the discussions around getting your financial house in order, creating passive cash flow and the general discussions on how to set goals and living your life how you want it resonated

Future politics looks at how tech will change all areas of our lives: liberty, democracy, politics etc.
These sections are well addressed in turn and are digestible. There are great references to thought leaders in each field, discussion on how tech could take new paths and ideas for how to manage and make this work for us.
I enjoyed it a lot, and spurred lots of ideas and discussions with friends
