Beartown: A Novel | Fredrik Backman
Pickpick

I was genuinely thought that I wasn't going to be able to keep all of the characters straight, but this was such a compelling read, I needn't have worried. A great book with a host of intriguing, warm-blooded characters. And hockey. So how can you go wrong?

I read this book over weeks and weeks because I just couldn't get over how terribly sad it was. Terrific, to be sure. But absolutely aching.

The Big Sleep | Raymond Chandler
Mehso-so

A fun summer read. But, MAN, does Chandler not hold up in 2018. You slapped her? Seriously? And, "she didn't mind the slap?" That seems unlikely. Yeah, I realize that the historical-critical method is a tough application here, but wow.

How to Stop Time | Matt Haig
Mehso-so

The premise of time travel is always tough for me. Still, I liked this book. My major complaints were that the characters of Omai and Marion don't really pay off, especially for as much attention and importance the Marion gets throughout the book. And Tom feels like a character who has things happen to him rather than taking an active role in his own story.
