I am not especially into lexicography, but I found this book fascinating. Winchester articulates the mind-boggling scope and significance of this task without getting too deeply into the weeds (okay, he gets hip-deep once or twice). The case of the madman in question is treated with sensitivity and compassion. A short and compelling read; can't wait to pick up more of Winchester's books.

I loved this book! The strong voice had me hooked from page 1. Clever, acute, and poignant. So insightful about the complex relationship between the two main characters.

So much fun, when I finished it I flipped back to page 1 and read it again.

I'm not typically a fan of war stories. For this book, I make a big exception. O'Brien writes viscerally (in the best possible sense), exposing his characters' deep humanity when their circumstances demand they be everything but human. Hemingway said to write one true sentence; while I've never been in combat, this book contains the truest sentences I know.

Paula McLain is the queen of historical fiction, and this book is exquisite. Circling the Sun tells the story of Beryl Markham, a remarkable woman living in the elegantly asphyxiating culture of colonial Kenyan British society, trying to be true to herself when she's a century ahead of her time. Heartbreaking and magical.

MrBook Nice review 😊👍🏻! Got this from #BOTM, can't wait to read it 😁. 8y

My favorite play of all time. Arcadia blends academic competition, gardening, entropy, and lust. What more could one want?

MrBook Tea. I want tea too. 😊👍🏻 8y
AWHill Tea goes without saying. ☕️ There is no tea emoji. 8y

See all those flags? Those are all the places I marked where Ng did something brilliant. NB: I ran out of flags.

I loved this story. The characters are raw and real and unrelenting. If the job of a writer is to make her characters suffer, King does her job well! Heart-wrenching and lovely. I couldn't put it down.

I am obsessed with Lily King's writing. Her books are like works of sculpture--every word is essential, nothing is carelessly crafted. The language is sharp, fine, and precise, resulting in an exquisitely told story.
