Pickpick

I'm loving my #yearofpoetry . I've always loved it but I don't read it enough, so this is the year I've decided to become obsessive :) this book of poetry is amazing! 💜💜💜

(Poorly lit) #bookmail ! When I signed up for Library of America's subscription plan, I basically told them to send me everything - not just the new stuff. So every six weeks is a surprise, and I'm really happy with this one. Bishop is a poet I don't know too well, but it seems like she wrote often about the natural world and a sense of place - two things I love! #yearofpoetry

SaraFair Did not know of such a thing! Is it always poetry? 8y

brendanmleonard @SaraFair LoA is a non profit publishing house dedicated to collecting, reissuing, and printing definitive editions of work with the aim to create a broader canon/archive of American literature. So it's not just the big names of dead white guys, but they also publish crime fiction, scifi, black literature, collections of reporting, anthologies on topics like art and nature, and more. There are gaps but it's a noble effort. 1/2 8y
brendanmleonard @SaraFair how the subscription plan works is you sign up, and decide if you want a new book every 4 weeks to 6 months. I do 6 weeks, and you pick out the titles from a list that you want them to send. Every x number of weeks, you get a new book. It's about 30 dollars per book, but also consider they retail for about 50-60 dollars. And you get discounts in the online shop. You can become a member of LOA but that's it's own thing. 2/3 8y
brendanmleonard @SaraFair they used to do a separate series called American Poets but that's been discontinued. 8y
