Behind on posts, but wanted to include this for the #scarathon photo challenge: monster. My 8 year old still finds this one a little too creepy (66 points) #BatBrigade

The first thing I noticed about this library copy was the evidence of true love. Someone has read this book over and over. Scieszka and Barnett have a humor that kids can relate to, and they crack me up. Myers' illustrations look simple at first glance. The whole book design is genius. Extra ☆ for mentioning Godzilla.

A wonderful picture book about Mary Shelley and her creation of one of the most iconic monsters in literature.

Does anyone know more about this #BOTM alternative? The set up sounds similar: books are chosen the first of each month and you pick one and can choose two additional books. Ships to the US AND Canada! The US price is $17.99 for the monthly book plus $9.99 for each add-on. Canada price is a bit different. I think they‘re starting in September. Seriously considering it…

vivastory Have you heard of Boxwalla? They ship every other month & have 3 different paperback books to select from, plus 1 pre-selected book. I have been pretty happy with their choices. They tend to focus on international lit fic. Going to tag their choices for the Aug box, so you have an idea of what they offer. The book that comes with any of the choices is 2y

Jas16 I have been toying with a book subscription for ages and then looking at my stacks of unread books and promptly talking myself out of it. Aardvark does look intriguing though. I may have to give it a go. 2y
Chelsea.Poole I don‘t know about this but I love the branding! 2y
Cinfhen No, but like @Jas16 @Chelsea.Poole very intrigued! Also the subscription that @vivastory mentioned 😁Except unless any of them ship overseas to Israel it‘s become too difficult to get my books sent over in a timely or costly manner 😔 2y
Jess Thanks for the heads up. I joined the mailing list so we will see. 2y
Hooked_on_books @vivastory August will be my third boxwalla! I found over the last couple years that I‘m really appreciating translated lit and this subscription is really affordable. I‘m enjoying it so far! (Though their website for picking your box after you initially subscribe leaves a lot to be desired.) 2y
vivastory @Hooked_on_books I agree about the site! I find it confusing. I actually emailed their support about it yesterday. 2y
Megabooks @vivastory @Hooked_on_books thanks for the heads up! I‘m not as much a fan of paperback as I am of hardcover, but I am enjoying more literature in translation lately as well. I‘m going to keep my eye on this and strongly consider it. 2y
Megabooks @Jas16 I‘ve enjoyed having BOTM on and off for 6 years. I prefer subscription boxes that are just books, as I usually don‘t end up using the other things. I‘m interested to see what books aardvark ends up primarily thinking because BOTM has been a bit thriller/romance heavy for me lately. 2y
Megabooks @Chelsea.Poole it is cool! 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I know in the pandemic it has been much harder than in the past. I wish more boxes shipped internationally WITHOUT prohibitive expense. 2y
Megabooks @Jess yeah, I think it‘s worth a look. 👀 2y
ICantImReading Oooh… I‘m intrigued! Thank you, I subscribed to the mailing list, too! 2y
Megabooks @ICantImReading I‘m so interested to see what it will be like! 2y

Such a cute book! Recommended for grades 3-5. I read this with such a great class of mine. They genuinely loved reading it. It‘s a story of a young boy who is making excuses for why he didn‘t do his writing homework and it turns into a saga of this student finding their voice and passion for writing.

My family's Christmas was a little wonky last year, and we weren't able to celebrate together. So I've been getting presents periodically and I'm not mad about it. 😎 These are from my Mom and they look so good!!!

This writer appreciates a book that teaches staying true to your creative vision! Arthur writes a story for homework, but then worries that it is not as exciting as his pals‘ tales. Should he try to write more like them, or stick to his sweet, genuine story? A good book to read aloud to first graders or for 2nd graders to read alone. #kidlit #beyourself

If I could give this 6 ⭐️, I would. Fabulous words and illustrations tell the story of writing a story, complete with adjectives, adverbs, plot & run on sentences. All while doing a marvelous retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. Check this out!
