Lone Wolf: A Novel | Jodi Picoult

This was the library bookclub pick for March. I read it in two days. Frankly none of the characters were likable. Cara (17 yo daughter) was a giant spoiled brat. There was even one point where it seemed the story derailed a moment. If I‘m generous maybe two stars. #picoult #lonewolf #unlikable

ItsAnotherJen I usually love anything by Picoult, so I went and looked what I rated this on Goodreads. I usually give her books 4-5 stars. Only gave this one 3 stars. 🤷‍♀️ 5y
jb72 @JenFowler I felt like part of the story was stretched thin. Luke was such an unlikable guy. 5y

Prep: A Novel | Curtis Sittenfeld
post image

With the exception of American Wife, Sittenfeld is often accused of creating #unlikable characters. They aren't evil like Dolores Umbridge, but they tend to be women who can be whiny, passive-aggressive, petty, etc. I would even argue that Sittenfeld made Lizzie Bennet somewhat unlikable in her version of P&P. But these so-called unlikable characters are why I enjoy Sittenfeld's work so much.

Reviewsbylola I love Sittenfeld! 7y
readinginthedark I agree! I did not like Lizzie's character in Eligible. But that and a few other changes ruined the book for me. Not sure Sittenfeld is my jam. 😕 7y
merelybookish @RachelM @Reviewsbylola I think her work is really smart! @readinginthedark Read American Wife before you give up on her. I liked some aspects of Eligible but found some of her choices problematic. 7y
readinginthedark @merelybookish Okay, I'll try it. 7y
