The Lioness: A Novel | Chris Bohjalian

For #readafrica2022 I picked this one representing #Tanzania. This author is an automatic buy and I loved how he brought the Tanzanian landscape to life while at the same time telling a page turning story about a kidnapping gone wrong. Book is populated by a lot of characters so that can get confusing at times as each character has his/her POV. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle #travelthroughbooks

Librarybelle I‘m excited to read this one! 1d
KristiAhlers @Librarybelle I brought this one with me the past weekend. I did a quick road trip up to Wisconsin to see my best friend. This one kept me very entertained 1d
Bklover I like his books too, but haven‘t read them all yet Hope you had a good visit! 1d

KristiAhlers @Bklover I did. It was so nice to get out of the area. Have some wine, catch up. It was a much needed break. And as for this guys books I think this might be one of his I like the best. 1d

For #readafrica2022 I selected this title representing #Belgiancongo #thecongo. I have to say I spent a few chapters yelling at the book. A few chapters crying and the whole book cringing as several times it was extremely uncomfortable. Which I guess is why it‘s a controversial read. In any event this country came alive for me through her descriptions and the characters. #travelthroughbooks @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle @Texreader

Librarybelle I‘ve yet to read this one, but I‘ve heard others describe all of the emotions they get from this one. 4d
KristiAhlers @Librarybelle it was good but I wouldn‘t read it again. It was actually a draining read emotionally if you know what I mean. 4d

For #travelthroughbooks I have visited Finland in this romance retelling of Hades and Persephone ⭐️⭐️⭐️ read. At times it truly engaged me (I‘m always down for a retelling as most of you know) but this was just too often a hit and a miss then engaging back to…hmmm let‘s skim a few pages. Does end in a cliffhanger and the next book will be out later this month. I doubt I‘ll bother. Free with the KU program #finland #romantsy #springread

For #travelthroughbooks we visit #sweden in this true crime read. I will say it was interesting to read how criminal investigations are done in other countries. With that said I just personally think it got bogged down in details that I just didn‘t think a reader would need. Or at least personally I didn‘t think I needed it. #truecrime #springread

For the #travelthroughbooks we visit Jerusalem. This is a love story in just about every way. Not a romance story. This is about love and loss and differences. At times it was a really slow going read and it took a bit to connect with Elias and Lila but once I did it was a solid read. #springread #jerusalem #middleeast

For #travelthroughbooks we visit England with this non-fiction tell. I must say the author goes into great detail unwrapping all the secrets from Camillagate to Harry and Meghan leaving for the states. It‘s a lengthy read but interesting. #england #springread

This was such a very good read. Written in broken English, it‘s the story of a 14 yr old girl who so desperately wants to go to school to learn to be a teacher. Instead she‘s married off by her cruel father. I learned so much about this culture and this country through this book. #readafrica2022 #Nigeria #travelthroughbooks @Texreader @Librarybelle

Librarybelle This is on my to read list! 1w
KristiAhlers @Librarybelle oh you‘re going to love it. I loved how it was written in broken English. Truly adds to the experience of the story. 1w
Texreader I‘m so glad you loved it too and you‘re kicking off your readingafrica challenge. You picked a good one to start. I highly recommend I Am A Girl from Africa next. Super inspirational 1w
KristiAhlers @Texreader oh. Ok great. I‘ll download that one now! Thanks for the suggestion! 1w

Oh how I enjoyed this one. From prologue to ending. The thing that makes this such a wonderful read are the characters! The writing is sweet and the author brought Scotland to life. I‘ve actually visited Scotland several times when I lived in England and this made me homesick for the brogue and the food! #travelthroughbooks #scotland #mayreading

I traveled to Finland for this amazing read. Set during WWII it takes place during the Winter War when Russia invaded Finland. This is both a romance (sweet) and historical fiction. Prepare yourself and maybe (totally do) have Kleenex handy. #travelthroughbooks #Finland #sisu #mayreading

In this book I visited the country of Chili. This story is told by 10 different women. It was an interesting read as each story was told by each individual woman as they experienced life. Add the cultural differences and it‘s a truly absorbing read. #travelthroughbooks #mayreading #chili
