Squidapus latched onto this at random but oh boy is he interested in it. Francis Stevens was the pen name of Gertrude Barrows Bennett, the first major female writer in the US of sci fi and fantasy and started the subgenre of dark fantasy (so says the back!). Three friends in 1918 go 200 years into the future and take part in deadly games that will determine the new ruler of this future dystopia. It'll be interesting to see what started a lot!
