What a story! I had to finish this late last night, I just couldn‘t wait any longer for the ending. Once the truth was revealed it all immediately clicked in my head, but I never thought the book would end the way it did. If you love a good mystery with a twist I highly recommend this book! I cannot believe that this was the first book by Alex Michaelides, I am surely a fan of his now and will be looking out for his books!

This older (1960s) #ya retelling of a Welsh story from the Mabinogion didn‘t quite work for me. The writing style and unsettling story reminded me of Diana Wynne Jones‘s Fire and Hemlock, which I found similarly hard to appreciate as an adult reader. I‘m beginning to think I just don‘t respond well to too much ambiguity in my folk tale retellings 🤷‍♀️ oh well! #socialdistancereading book one down!
