I adored this picture book. It has beautiful messages about community, sharing, and gratitude. It‘s the picture book selection for Charlotte Mecklenburg Library‘s 2024 Community Reads program.

rockpools Hi Rachel. This may (or may not) be a silly question ( sorry!) but am I friends with you on DuoLingo? 🇮🇹 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿? I know it‘s a Litsy Rachel but have come back to it after ages and have the memory of a 🐌 2mo
DGRachel @rockpools I honestly don‘t know. I quit using Duolingo earlier this year or the end of last year. I may go back to it eventually, but I don‘t even have the app on my phone anymore. 2mo
rockpools @DGRachel Thanks for answering weird random questions. It‘s someone who‘s super-active on there at the moment that I‘m trying to track down, so probably not you! Sorry for going hugely off-topic in your feed! 1mo
DGRachel @rockpools No need to apologize. I don‘t mind at all. I hope you find the person you are seeking. 1mo

Hey! Just checking in to let everyone know all is well! Just haven‘t been doing any reading at all - my minimal brain power and energy has been put towards nesting and getting ready for baby Benjamin.💙

Time is such a crazy thing. I‘ve been pregnant for three seasons, but yet it feels like no time at all, and also not soon enough until we meet him.😊

I‘ve been working on building up his little library, with my favourite book being Pig the Pug.🐶

iamcourtneyb Super excited for you! My little one will be 5 weeks tomorrow 🥹. I‘d love to hear some recs for the baby library! I have a few but def need more. 3mo
Clwojick @iamcourtneyb Most of my go-tot‘s were childhood favourites like Robert Munsch, Little Critters, Clifford, Berenstain Bears,Franklin, Arthur etc. But some newer gems I‘ve found include the Pig the Pug series, Pug and Chick, anything by Sandra Boynton, and then anything Holiday themed! (Christopher Pumpkin is a Halloween gem!) I LOVE the “How Do Dinosaurs…” series, but I haven‘t purchased any yet. ☺️ 3mo

TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! When Benjamin gets a little older, you definitely have to have his dad read him this one - the illustrations are just too adorable for words!! 3mo

Mehso-so

Just a tiny bit dark in tone, something the adults can appreciate in picture books. Not quite 'original Grimm's fairy tales' type ending, but certainly leans toward delivering a dire fate to the wrong doer as a moral lesson to readers.
Whether depicting the greedy character as fat is the wrong kind of messaging to send to kids today, feels sadly like a question that was just emerging into the mainstream when this book was first published.

A part of the book that really stood out to me was at the end when they all had a dance party. In younger grades I feel like this is important because who doesn't love a good dance party but it also shows they that its okay to be you in your community.
