Visited Ephrata Cloister in Lancaster Pennsylvania, part of the PA Trails of History program. And there was an amazing book! In 1745, Jacob Gottschalk(1st Mennonite Bishop in America)arranged with the Ephrata Cloister to have them translate the book from its original Dutch into German and print it. It took 15 men three years to finish and in 1749, at 1512 pages, it was the largest single volume printed in America before the Revolutionary War.

Leftcoastzen Wow! 1y
DivineDiana @Leftcoastzen The Martyrs' Mirror is still a beloved book among the Amish, Old Order Mennonites and Conservative Mennonites, with a copy usually in every home and often given as a wedding gift. 😲 I think it would give me nightmares! NOT adding to my TBR! 1y
LeahBergen That‘s so cool! 1y
DivineDiana @LeahBergen It was an interesting visit! 🙂 1y

🦇 I‘m so excited for only reading books about #witches and #witchcraft in October that I‘ve already started a couple from my tbr! I own so many witchy books that it‘ll be nice to get through a few that I‘ve been wanting to read for a while 🦇

PageShifter I would also love to read those but it feels like a month is too short!! 2y
Cazxxx @PageShifter I agree! I would need a lot longer 😂 2y

Amazing book that told the story of the authors personal experience of the Cambodian killing fields which occurred when the country fell to the Khmer Rouge in 1975. He experienced so many horrible things. His entire family was killed and he wandered the jungles alone. Eventually he moved out of the country and found Christian faith. And much later returned to Cambodia to teach and plant a church.

I decided to use www.pickerwheel.com to decide what I read next because I couldn‘t decide. I had 3 choices on the wheel: Every Last Secret, Dorothy Must Die Series and Foxe‘s Book Of Martyrs. I wasn‘t wanting to read a book about Christians dying for their faith right now. I was hoping the wheel would have chosen the Dorothy Must Die Series because I need to finish it. I want to know how it ends.

I downloaded this Christian historical romance during a freebie promo because I used to be friendly with Jody Hedlund on Twitter, then sat on it for years because I‘m always a bit leery of religious fiction. Sometimes it‘s lovely and sometimes it‘s so hateful towards other religions that I can‘t stomach it. So far, this one‘s in the lovely camp. I hope it keeps up.

#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #ReadingAsia2021 @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB

A teenage girl goes to #Indonesia to help build a church and while there conflict arises between Christians and Muslims and she gets caught up in the violence.

I thought the backstory about Indonesia was interesting, but I wasn't a fan of the characters in this one. It felt a bit like the Amercians were written as "white saviors" and that bugged me.

TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! 3y
Librarybelle That would bug me too! 3y

I‘m gonna post a book (or series) from my TBR every day until I‘ve shared the lot. No descriptions. No explanations. Just a whole bunch of books I haven‘t read yet.

This is Day 49.
