Started and finished while donating plasma today. I almost feel like I need to read it again. This was a fast paced book, with lots to think about. I got accepted into a summer nonfiction writing workshop and this is our “textbook”. I basically find Shields‘ worldview naïve; his proclamations in favor of collage & “mixing”, and against citation, are pretty funny in light of GenAI stealing the work of humans & shitting out assemblage. But I liked some of the stuff about the generic blurring of fiction & nonfiction and the task of the memoirist. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For a short #audiobook, it was nice. It read like a #guidedmeditation or a #manifesto. I listened to it while #foraging and walking the dog.

Find your oasis and rest; it is your right. We put our bodies through extremes daily as if it‘s our last chance for freedom, but to rest is sacred.

Sweet graphic novel based on the Author‘s life. It takes you through her childhood, and dives into unpleasant, happy, and repressed memories. The illustrations were wonderful, and the color scheme was pretty and soft. I enjoyed all the 80‘s references being an ‘86 baby myself :)

Starting this graphic novel. My goal this year is to read more books in Spanish. This got a lot of praise, and is part of a series of graphic novels I believe are based on the author.

I really enjoyed the unique structure and concept - 618 short passages, some authored by Shields, while others are quotations, bits of interviews or other materials to fit each chapter's theme. Those themes also cover interesting intellectual topics on the fraught border between fiction versus nonfiction. But I kept hearing this implication that traditional fiction is tired and some new experimental fictive nonfiction is superior somehow 👇
