#intergrateyourshelf

Again! A book I‘ve read - extremely recently at that!

It‘s a quick read (or listen)- but I found it to be very relatable. Perhaps I‘m not a dedicated as Keiko, the eponymous Convenience Store Woman, but I understand wanting to fit into the world at large.

Again, late but! This one I‘ve actually read!! YAY!

I read this a year or so back and had no idea it was translated fiction. It‘s a good short story collection that I‘d recommend if you like magical realism and a little bit of horror, both direct and creeping dread.

ChasingOm I really loved this collection! 4y

I am super behind on these prompts lol. Missed the month 😬
But! I was rearranging my shelves and found the tagged book. It‘s all about disabled superheroes- the MC is blind but telekinetic, for example- and how they‘re considered “lesser” in the grand scheme of heroism- or are they?!

It‘s been some time since I read it, but I do remember it being a good read, if not a little formulaic.

And there‘s a sequel apparently!

ChasingOm Oh, that sounds cool! 4y

Hey guess who STILL has work to do~!
Bingo bongo it is I 🙃

Tagged is the book highest on my TBR that fits in the timeframe.

Turns out I only have 2 books from that timeframe at all, both from college reading courses. My bookshelf skews from 20‘s, a handful of 30‘s- 40‘s, and then the rest is 80‘s-present. Or timeless magical realm shenanigans. So I got more work to doooo

Emilymdxn I felt the exact same looking at the prompt! No time like the present to track down some important books 4y

Megabooks This is a fantastic book!! 4y
TheBookHippie @Megabooks RIGHT?!?! I just think for 3 bucks it‘s really really a good deal. 4y
JamieArc The audio version is excellent. The author reads it himself. I never would have done it justice, reading it to myself. 4y
LatrelWhite 👍🏽 I also purchased it great price!😄 4y

Thought provoking and an important read. I can‘t recommend it enough.

Book 3/4 for #jubliantjuly and another free space on my #bookspin bingo card. 👍🏻

Andrew65 Well done. 👏👏👏 4y
TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Great progress!! 4y
wkm306 Intriguing summary 4y
wanderinglynn @wkm306 I recommend reading it. Although she discusses racism specifically in the UK, much of the discussion has broader application. 4y
wkm306 @wanderinglynn yup i added to my stack 📚 4y

Finally something impressive. My TBR has grown by at least 50 books for both nonfiction and fiction reads to help better understand. My stacks probably look like most everyone else‘s- but the tagged book just came in today and I‘m so excited!

Emilymdxn That‘s an incredible tbr, mine is probably similar! It‘s exciting to have it all to dive into and learn so much from 4y

All of Frederick Douglass books are good for #IntergrateYourshelf

They are so powerful, I highly recommend them. There are even picture books about his life.

Emilymdxn Omg I think you read my mind I was just saying to someone recently I need to get round to reading Douglass! I have a biography of him on my shelf that I have to read but I wanna save it for when I‘ve read at least some of his own stuff firstborn 4y
katy4peas 😮 wow, powerful stuff. 😢 I haven‘t had much interest in celebrating my country the last several years because there are things I am not proud of in the current time going on, but this year is even more frustrating. This is powerful. Thanks for sharing. 4y
hermyknee Thank you for sharing ♥️ I read this speech in full yesterday (and even posted about it)— It‘s so powerful. So important for Americans to remember and reckon with every day, but especially today. (edited) 4y

Butterfinger I appreciate these words so much. 4y
TheBookHippie @hermyknee I read it with students Thursday and posted on IG as well. I think people forget to read him or have no knowledge of him. I reread the speech again this morning and thought I‘d post it here (the link) for people to read. So so powerful. 4y
TheBookHippie @Butterfinger if you read the speech it‘s so much still today. (Link) 4y
TheBookHippie @Emilymdxn read the speech in the link. It is today. Relevant. It‘s necessary reading . 4y
TheBookHippie @katy4peas I agree. I always recommend his works to people trying to understand the fight for equality. It‘s hard to celebrate freedom when freedom is only afforded to some. 4y
Librarybelle Have you seen Douglass‘ descendants reading the speech? Absolutely moving. Here‘s the link to the video: https://www.npr.org/2020/07/03/884832594/video-frederick-douglass-descendants-re... 4y
TheBookHippie @Librarybelle yes. We watched it with my students . It‘s amazing isn‘t it? 4y
GingerAntics 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I‘m with every single person here. It‘s hard to celebrate this nation right now when so many people are still not free within its boarders. 4y

New week, new prompt, same garbo stats!
Of the 23 books I‘ve read there were only 2-3 side characters and one potential author.

Clearly, I have some work to do.

So instead I tagged the next book of on my TBR that I‘m most looking forward to that fulfills the prompt.

#intergrateyourshelf

ChasingOm THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD! 4y
