I think this book was fairly mediocre. It didn‘t really have much (if any) new information in it, and I can‘t say I enjoyed it. I read it through to the end, but that was more stubbornness on my part than it was enjoyment. I‘m glad I checked it out from the library instead of purchasing it, since it was definitely a #borrownotbuy. Also, why did the author hate the color grey so much? She went on about it at least three times! I love grey! 🩶!!

Living a Beautiful Life | Alexandra Stoddard

Pickpick

One of the first books I ever read on making a house a home. Growing up in a dysfunctional family, clutter and chaos was the norm. This book was life changing for twentysomething me. Rereading all these years later, I'm surprised at how many things are part of my routines. Yes, it's a bit dated and pretentious in places, but it taught me so much: seasonal eating, flowers in the house, and setting a pretty table. 🌸

Crinoline_Laphroaig One of things that made this house 'The One' was this little area in the Master Bath. When I'm doing my hair and makeup I'm surrounded by things I love: flowers, candles, and my yoga frog. 🐸 3mo

Today‘s library stack. I went in for one book, but what can I say? I was unsupervised in the stacks! 🤣📚❤️ #librarylove

I did a thing. I ventured out this weekend to see my daughter in Providence. We went to the Athenæum and then to Aleppo Sweets for some Arabic coffee with cardamom and of course some baklava. The Athenæum had a sale so I got 6 books for less than $10!!! No anxiety. It was lovely.

batsy That sounds lovely. Baklava + books 👌🏾 3mo

Cuilin @IndoorDame I recommend. It‘s a beautiful space. Have you been to the library on Nantucket? It reminded me of that. (edited) 3mo
Cuilin @Bklover delightful 🩷 3mo
IndoorDame @Cuilin no. I actually haven‘t been out to Nantucket at all since I was a girl, before I lived in the area. I used to go as a tourist to visit family friends. 3mo

I appreciate the irony that some of my clutter consists of multiple issues of a magazine dedicated to making life simpler. They used to occupy two shelves plus an overflow area, and now it‘s down to one shelf on the bookcase that‘s holding my #readordonate books. Getting the subscription finally stopped also helped, but that‘s another story! There weren‘t many January issues, and they‘re gone, so I‘m working on December now. #monthlymagazineblitz

julieclair Real Simple are some of the hardest magazines to part with! Good for you for not stopping at January! 👍 4mo

I keep seeing this book being praised as a great book for honing the homemaking skills. My initial skimming has piqued my interest so I extended my library due date so I could have time to savor and absorb. 👩‍🍳 🧼 💐 🥘🧶🪡

I liked the charts in this book for flavor & ingredient combos, etc. I also liked the message of keeping a kitchen and cook according to the season of your life and what you like, not for someone else or a fantasy.

Otherwise I don‘t think the info is all that useful for people already comfortable in their kitchens. For those who are not, it might be a tad overwhelming, despite Kendra‘s explicit intent to make it easy. Lots of words!
