My friend turned me on to The Glucose Goddess on Instagram.

Neither of us is diabetic, but we are both interested in improving our overall health and MOODS ?

This book is filled with super easy hacks on how to lower your glucose curve.

Did I mention "super easy?"

Jessie's scientific explanations are easy to follow and include graphs and illustrations.

I really enjoyed her story about what led her into all of this.

4.0 ⭐️
Very informative and presented in a non-judgmental, easy to digest, and friendly way. I've heard a lot of criticism of this book from some other dietitians/nutritionists, but I honestly do not see why. I think that the information is helpful and Jessie comes off in such a laidback manner that it doesn't seem preachy.

Very fast read with 10 quick and easy hacks to lessen the impact of glucose spikes based on scientific research. First 2 sections of the book explain the science behind glucose and its impact on various bodily systems.

My nutritionist recommended this book to me even though I don‘t have an eating disorder. She says it‘s good at helping people learn to counter those voices in their heads that tell them they‘ll never be good enough. She‘s noticed my tendency to set impossible goals and then be hard on myself when I don‘t meet them. So it‘s cold and rainy outside, and I‘m curled up in bed reading this.

Hey #TeamHarkness, I hope you‘ve all been enjoying #Scarathlon2020 so far. I‘ve loved seeing your posts! Because the points system can be a bit complicated, let me know if you want me to check your posts and make sure you‘re counting things correctly before you give me your week‘s totals this weekend. Let me know if you have any questions at all. Keep reading - and don‘t get discouraged - remember it‘s all fun and games! Also - Dogs are amazing.

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Perfect timing! Finished All I Want for Halloween. Turned out to be smutty romance, not spooky, but bookended by costume parties for Halloween (late Sept - late October). What point value should I assign? 4y
StayCurious @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick the full points for sure! Halloween is right in the title😈🎃 4y
Bookgoil Yes I‘m a little confused funny you are posting this for team reads +15 can I use zombie books and ghost stories? 4y
StayCurious @Bookgoil for the 15 points themed read it can be monsters, ghosts, ghouls, witches, zombies - anything supernatural. But if it takes place near or on Halloween it gets 25 points! 4y
Bookgoil One more I‘m a school librarian I remember kids books count and that‘s coming up sooo.. I can count picture book reads?!? 4y
Bookgoil Also I‘m a school librarian and I‘ll be using some picture books soon on theme and can I use ones off too I‘m thinking too right? I have been forgetting to track those! I don‘t always track in goodreads. 4y
StayCurious @Bookgoil yes picture books do count! I‘m counting on them to help my points total because I‘m a slow reader 4y
StayCurious @Bookgoil non theme reads are 5 points! 4y
Bookgoil Sorry one more if it‘s an anime about demon school even if it‘s funny can I count it for the shows?!? 4y
StayCurious @Bookgoil yup! 5 points per episode! 4y
Gissy I posted my tbr before Oct 1, so that is 25 points + 1 point for post it? 4y
Traci1 I've been waiting to read the new Hannah Swenson book because its a Christmas cozy so would only be 5 points. But I can't wait any longer. If it fits in any of the readathon prompts (there's a food prompt in whodunit that would work) can I still count those points if it's not a supernatural or Halloween book? 4y
StayCurious @Gissy that‘s right! 4y
StayCurious @Traci1 yes you can! 4y
Gissy Sorry I have to continue: then I watched one scary movie 5 points + 1 point for post it. I read 5 hours in a Readathon + 1 point for post it= 51 and then I read a thriller scary book which I'm going to post it tomorrow will be 16 points total because it not Halloween related, the book is Home Before Dark. 4y
StayCurious @Gissy as long as the scary book had supernatural elements it‘s worth 15 - if not, then just 5 4y

Jadams89 Ok - do we count hours read for Scarathlon? I‘ve seen different things.... 4y
StayCurious @Jadams1776 Sorry no - other readathons yes, but I‘m not counting hours read for our event (edited) 4y
Jadams89 @StayCurious That‘s what I thought. Thanks 😊 4y
Bookgoil One more question for movies would one like Kikis delivery service count?!? I didn‘t know if it was just scary/thrillers. 4y
StayCurious @Bookgoil it would totally count! She‘s a witch! 4y
ImperfectCJ Is #screamathon considered a readathon for hours read? And is any post about a book we're reading for scarathlon +1 or only reviews, game replies, and other specific things? E.g., my post about audiowalking this morning...not a review, just a blurb but about the buddy read. Not sure if it counts for +1. 4y
StayCurious @ImperfectCJ yup any post counts for participation! And yes, any hours you spend on #screamathon books count for 10 points / hr 4y
aperfectmjk What are the other readathons going on right now? I knew about the one that ran from 10/1 - 10/4, but that's it. Is it too late to sign up for these other readathons? I've just been reading, but feel like I'm missing outnon valuable points because I'm not participating in a current readathon. I'm still relatively new to Litsy so I have not discovered all these wonderful happenings. 4y
HeathHof Thanks for this post! Does Carpe Demon count for 50 points? I just finished it 😬 Such a fun read!😁 4y
KVanRead I know short stories/tales each get counted individually- how about non-fiction? would each story about a haunted house in a non-fiction book be counted individually? 4y
StayCurious @aperfectmjk I'll make a post later today that lists some of the readathons that are coming up 4y
StayCurious @Mynameisacolour Glad you liked it! Yes, it counts for 50 points as it is the buddy read. 4y
StayCurious @KVanRead absolutely! 4y
aperfectmjk @StayCurious I started my own for this weekend. #littenlisten for audiobooks only. Audiobook lovers are encouraged! 😁 4y
Bookishgal71 I‘m working my way through both Carpe Demon and A Discovery of Witches and will finish The Lying Game this weekend. I have watched three “Halloween” movies (think Michael Myers) and four episodes of Monsterland and two episodes of The Great Halloween Baking Championship this week. Do they count? 4y
Bookgoil Okay sooo if I have a Fb group that has a readathon I can count it? Lol I‘m just going to triple this weekend if so 4y
bthegood @StayCurious and #TeamHarkess I may be the underachiever of the group...keeping it simple, reading buddy read, theme books, a few posts and shows.....with grandsons arrival and work some of my energy going elsewhere! I will add done points though!🎃 4y
StayCurious @Bookishgal71 oh yes they all count! Each episode 5 points! 4y
StayCurious @Bookgoil absolutely! 4y
StayCurious @bthegood that‘s ok! It‘s all for fun! 4y
Bookgoil Do half hours count for readathons like 5 points? I forgot to ask lol 4y
StayCurious @Bookgoil they certainly do! 4y

Read things you're sure will disagree with your current thinking. If you're a die-hard anti-animal person, read Meat. If you're a die-hard global warming advocate, read Glenn Beck. If you're a Rush Limbaugh fan, read James W. Loewen's Lies My Teachers Told Me. It'll do your mind good and get your heart rate up.

Heads up!!! If you get this book as an audiobook, it‘s narrated by Joel himself!! This is fantastic because it feels like your having a conversation with an old friend as he blows your mind with rightful outrage over the American food system. Then he leaves you wanting to hunt down every local farmer just to shake their hand. (& support by buying their local food as much as possible)
