Pickpick

Old stone walls with ivy clinging to them, broad paths bordering a velvet lawn, couples in bright colors walking arm and arm ... Pam and Penny move on from high school (DOUBLE DATE) to college at Harwood, a small university in a suburb near Cleveland. All the 1950s nostalgia you could ever want is wrapped up in this beautiful package of a book. I never tire of revisiting these stories and gobble them up like the cotton candy of my youth.

Amiable At first glance I thought this was a book from the Cherry Ames series! Did you ever read those? My sister loved them. 8mo
dabbe @Amiable No, but my older sister read them! Now I have to look those up, too! 🧡💜🧡 8mo
Amiable @dabbe My sister and I used to get books passed down from our aunt —she was only 9 years older than me, but it was enough of a gap that we were able to dive into stuff that other kids our own age had never heard about. 8mo

dabbe @Amiable That is just wonderful. #allthegoodfeels 8mo
Amiable @dabbe It was very handy having an aunt who was a bit older. I also credit her with my lifelong love of Billy Joel. I was 10 when “The Stranger” came out and aunt Karlene had the album. My friends thought it was cool that I knew the words to all the songs. 🙂 8mo
dabbe @Amiable Another thing we have in common! I was 14 when “The Stranger“ came out, and my older sister (freshman in college) had the LP. I loved it so much, she got me my own for Christmas. Favorite song? “A bottle of white, a bottle of red, perhaps a bottle of rose instead ...“ #happynostalgia I have adored Billy Joel ever since. 🧡💜🧡 8mo
Amiable @dabbe I adore Billy! I‘m a fanatic—I‘ve seen him in concert more times than I can count. Multiple times at Madison Square Garden during his monthly residency, since I live near NYC. In recent years I‘ve made a game of seeing his concerts in different states. I‘ve been to Boston, Chicago—even Phoenix! My husband doesn‘t understand my obsession—I tell him it keeps me off the streets and in the (stadium) seats. 😀 8mo
dabbe @Amiable I've seen him tons of times, too! My favorite was in Tucson while I was attending U of A. Christie Brinkley was there, dancing on the sidelines!
Another fun moment: When my family and I left Katz's deli after a huge lunch (we were there in 1988 for the Macy's Parade), Billy, Christie, and their little baby Alexa, strolled on by, just like regular people. When I looked at Christie, I couldn't turn away; she was drop-dead gorgeous. 🤩

Amiable @dabbe Yay! So happy to share our mutual Billy obsession! I always felt a bit sorry for Alexa, though. Can you imagine having Christie Brinkley as your mother —but you look like your dad? 😬 (Sorry, Billy! I still love you. 😀🙂) 8mo
dabbe @Amiable Too true! 🤩 8mo
