But love, in its mystery, has its own power. It alone gives us meaning that endures. It alone allows us to embrace and cherish life. Love has power both to resist in our nature what we know we much resist, and to affirm what we know we must affirm. And love, as the poets remind us, is eternal.

quote
sarahsolberg

To survive as a human being is possible only through love. And, when Thanatos is ascendant, the instinct must be to reach out to those we love, to see in them all the diversity, pity, and pathos of the human. And to recognise love in the lives of others—even those with whom we are in conflict—love that is like our own.

This book was given to me by someone very dear. He wrote this inscription on the title page:

“I had the chance to read this when God‘s Chosen People were trying to fulfil their messianic delusions. It is relevant now more than ever. May you continue to find a life of love and meaning.”

I am so grateful this book fell into my hands when it did. Chris Hedges is a striking writer, and a perspective well worth listening to.

Hedges in this book, exposes the underbelly of war by revealing its futility, reckless abandon, and senseless destruction. There is no real point to it. A few soulless ghouls may profit, but the vast majority are left with broken and devastated lives. Peace, love, diplomacy, and a respect for humanity offer simple, powerful alternatives to the problems manufactured by the power-hungry.

War on Gaza | Joe Sacco

Pickpick

Comics journalist Joe Sacco criticizes American complicity in the ongoing genocide in Gaza powerfully and without compromise. The images are so distressing that I won‘t show examples here on Litsy. The instalments collected in this volume are available on The Comics Journal website, to see for yourself.

Cathythoughts Yes and the title says it all. But it will be too late for so many. 💔 Still, raising awareness 👏🏻❤️❤️ (edited) 2mo

Loved my #bookspin book for March!!!! It's a middle grade memoir of a girl growing up in Bosnia just before the war. She is just about the same age as me, so even though it was in a different country, it felt nostalgic. It was a perfect blend of personal, family, and national issues. I love how her culture was portrayed and was saddened by many turn of events. Now I need to read her YA account of the war years...

Poignant story of Japanese American soldier who fought with honor against Germans in Europe. He succeeded as a soldier despite a lot of prejudice at home. His family was at Topaz camp in Utah.

I am reading this one now about Japanese American soldiers in Europe during the big war, while their families were interned in camps back home!
