pickIt is hard to convince anyone how empowering the book is as you relay one plot point after another, but it truly is. It had all the frustrations women feel and felt through the ages, wrapped up in a harrowing tale that made me grip the reading chair with worry, gasp in well expressed grief and wallop when battles are hard won.

pickThis book was much darker than I anticipated. That being said, I couldn't tear myself away, I wanted to know what happened. I listened to this one on audio and loved the narration. The narrator has a thick Scottish accent and it really sets the tone. Trigger warnings for non-consensual sex.

I read this YA #Twins book back in 2010 according to Goodreads. I have always liked the cover & the optical illusion/ambiguous image on it. 🩷
pickI admit that I'm probably the ideal reader for this book; I was absolutely willing to fall under its spell. It's the time of excess, moral lassitude, lasciviousness, masks, & debauchery in 18th-century Venice, & also the time of art, beauty, music, & Vivaldi. Set at the Ospedale della Pietà, it has queer undertones, & sets the friendship of two young girls against the patriarchal norms of Venetian society as well as the deep & dark mysteries
I pulled this off my shelf at random to read. Why? To make room for my Christmas book gifts. 😆😆 I‘m enjoying it, though.
