pickThis American Life (my latest obsession) was my first introduction to Dan Savage, and I quickly purchased his book. Witty and intelligent, full of big feelings and hilarious surprises, comes Savage's debate and heartfelt ode to his family. I laughed out loud more than once and tucked away excerpts in my arsenal of retorts for the inevitable run-in with a disgruntled right-winger and/or religious troll ("powers of gay marriage activate!").
I‘ve read and enjoyed several of his others, but not this one. Has anyone read it?

Despite the heaviness of the book (both figuratively and literally), I really enjoyed it and looked forward to the way Lamb tied in each of the characters to each other. I looked forward to picking up the book again to continue reading it.

pickWow did this book make me CRY! Trying to vacuum? Bawling. Trying to go for a walk? Bawling in public 🤦🏼♀️. It felt so real (for most of it, I‘ll get to that in a minute) and heartfelt. I will say that I typically come to at least see both sides of the issues in a Picoult novel (she‘s an expert at that) but not in this one….the religious hatred and bigotry of the one side was just horrible! Also the ending was too perfect for reality. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
