Unsolved mysteries are always intriguing for me. The tragic disappearance of Amelia Earhart is one of those captivating mysteries. This is a short story about A. E.‘s disappearance in 1937. Portions of the story are told from A.E.‘s perspective while flying. Lizzie, age 15, hears A.E.‘s distress call. Excited to learn that A.E. is alive and asking for help when everyone else fears A.E. is lost at sea. ✈️

While this serves as a good introduction to Earhart, that‘s just it…an introduction. I guess when told in the first person, little Amelia will not go into the details of her final flight (she‘s little the entire book, even when portraying an adult). I do like the positive words, and it is an easy book to read aloud. Overall, for really young kids, probably a good starting point to Earhart‘s story. #BBRC #PictureBook #LetterI

Instead of turning into a princess, when this little girl opens her dress up box she becomes a different woman from stories her mom tells her & pictures her mom shows her of real women who‘ve made a stamp on history. The way this is written invites you to play with it. For readers tell their own stories to listeners, to look up names they don‘t know together & find new ones, to dress up the paper dolls included at the end… #BBRCPictureBookLetterE

LibrarianRyan This looks like fun. You inspired me at lunch to look through some of my lists and start placing holds. My ILL guy is probably ready to kill me. 2y
IndoorDame @LibrarianRyan glad I could be inspiring. That sounds like an excellent reason to have someone cross with you😆 2y

Although it's nonfiction, this book was like an emotional roller-coaster for me. I felt amazed, thrilled, horrified, devastated, outraged and moved while reading it. To say that the five aviatrices the book focuses on - Ruth Elder, Ruth Nichols, Amelia Earhart, Louise Thaden and Florence Klingensmith - and the many more fly girls who come up in the story were remarkable is a severe understatement. Their stories should be known ... ⬇️

eeclayton ... and their names remembered. An important and fascinating book.

Thank you so much @EadieB for recommending this to me! ❤️

This B picture book would be a great supplemental reading for a history lesson involving Amelia Earhart. It could be used as a partner read as a hook for a history lesson and would be a great choice during women‘s history month. https://www.readingrockets.org/blogs/shanahan-literacy/who-should-teach-discipli... #UCFLAE3414SP21

Emiranda UDL 3.1 is shown in this strategy by providing this book prior to teaching about Amelia Earhart to supply background knowledge. EL29 could be used if this is for an older student to teach the history of Amelia earhart in American history in a simplified way. 3y
