God of Small Things | Arundhati Roy

Mehso-so

I loved the structure of the story, I liked how she points out that small things matter, how she commented without judgment, through the lives of characters, caste system and religions. The judgment is the matter/problem of the reader. I agree that the prose is lush, gorgeous, beautiful ... but this is exactly kind of prose that makes me nervous and uncomfortable 🤷‍♀️
In my defense - The Ministry of Utmost Happiness was my favorite book in 2017.

BarbaraBB Great review. I adored this book but I read it in the nineties so I wouldn‘t know how I‘d appreciate it today. 5y
Simona @BarbaraBB It was reread for me, and after twenty years - I don‘t like it for the same reasons ... although, I appreciate more this time social commentaries. 5y

Cinfhen I couldn‘t get through this one or Ministry 🙈 5y
Emilymdxn Really interesting thoughts - I should reread this one. I listened to it on audio while struggling through the worst food poisoning of my entire life 😭😭 kind of ruins any book and I feel I didn‘t do it justice 5y
Simona @Cinfhen Ok, I understand your opinion about God of Small Things, but, Cindy, The Ministry was really good 😘😘😘 5y
Simona @Emilymdxn For me, this is a too much complicated story for audio format. Whenever I feel bad, my go to genre is mystery/crime. 5y
Emilymdxn Yeah I didn‘t intend to read it that way, I was a third of the way through when u got sick and didn‘t have the energy to@choose something else lol 5y
Cinfhen Sorry.... it was a slog!!!! I was falling asleep on every page😜😜 5y
