An interesting skip through Daltrey‘s life from school years, through the formation and progression on the Who, as seen through Daltrey‘s eyes, to his life today. I feel the need to read Pete Townshend‘s memoir now, to get a balanced view.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

I finished 6 books and my #bookspin (Ada by Nabokov) is still in progress. I have no bingo, but I'm happy with this month's reading. I liked each book, except for the continuation of The Watsons.

I've always liked The Who, and I've always loved a good rock bio, but these aren't the reasons why I picked up Daltrey's book. I heard him in Marc Maron's podcast a few years ago, and I liked him, and became interested in his story.
His memoir is honest and easy to read. He roughly follows a chronological order but jumps back and forth in time when the subject matter requires, and this worked for me nicely. Some events are barely mentioned... ⬇️

eeclayton ... before he moves on to something else, and I felt I'd have been happier with some more details, but all in all it was a pleasant read with some insight into what life with The Who has been like for Daltrey. 3y
Ruthiella I also really enjoyed this. I thought it was better than Townshend‘s memoir. 3y
eeclayton @Ruthiella I haven't read that one. Does he write more about the songwriting? 3y
Ruthiella @eeclayton Pete does give some insight to the songs, which is great. 3y
eeclayton @Ruthiella Thanks, then I may pick it up later on. 3y

1. I don‘t read enough memoir to have a favorite, but Daltry‘s memoir (tagged) was better than Townshend‘s.🌸

2. If I have a favorite genre, it‘s mystery. But so many authors do it well...Christie, Sayers, P. D. James, Atkinson...🌸

3. I don‘t read enough nonfiction to have a favorite, unfortunately! 🌸

Thanks for the tag @Klou ! If any Littens feel like playing, consider yourself tagged! 😀

Four books I plan to read in November which are presumably #factual. I too rarely read nonfiction! I have a real mental block against it. 😬

#FallFinds

Chab256 I got to get my plan together for #NonfictionNovember ! 5y
Ruthiella @Chab256 This will be my first time participating. I need it to make me read more nonfiction! 😀 5y
Leftcoastzen Whoish list! 5y
Ruthiella @Leftcoastzen I know! 😅 They were my favorite band in high school and my sister gifted me both books. Now I just have to read them! 5y

(Captain Adorable preparing for his rock star life.) This 500-page book was edited down from 1,000 pages. It‘s still too long. I imagine part of the difficulty was that Pete Townshend has done so much in his life! The man is a genius, maneuvering through all aspects of music, writing, producing. 7/8ths of the book was captivating. The reminder of the vast number of bands that started in a five year period in the 60‘s made me very nostalgic.

I had to laugh at this. Know any cleaning ladies who require a copy of your marriage license? How things have changed since the late 1960‘s.

Pete Townshend just blew my mind. I had no idea that Jimi Hendrix was briefly the warm-up band for the Monkees. I can‘t even picture what that must have been like.

Leftcoastzen Pete always blows my mind!👏👍❤️ 5y
