Mehso-so

Second book completed for #StaycationReadathon.

Although the Endurance expedition of 1914 was an astonishing feat of survival, the telling of it is quite repetitious. This is no fault of the author- by the men's own admissions in journal excerpts boredom was often as great a threat to survival as anything else. It's unquestionably heroic, but just not that interesting to read about.

HardcoverHearts This book has stayed with me since I originally read it in like 1997. No matter how horrible my day or week has been, I always default to - “Could be worse. I could have been on the Endurance.” 😂 6y
2BR02B @HardcoverHearts very true! And they did remarkably little complaining, all things considered. 6y

Pickpick

One book down for #StaycationReadathon. I can understand why it garnered such mixed reviews, but I enjoyed this book for the most part. I've been pretty depressed by current events lately, and picking up this book at the end of the day, immersing myself in the characters and their fond regard for one another, felt a bit like slipping into a warm bath. It's a comfort read all the way.

#StaycationReadathon is now underway! First up: finishing The Watchmaker for our #filigreefriends discussion this weekend. Then I'll probably knock out a section or two of NotW for #epicbuddyread.

vivastory My brother told me he heard an interview with one of the editors of npr book concierge & the editor said he was so impressed by Jade City he added it the day before the list was uploaded. 6y
ghosthost Jade City! 💚 6y
