“They didn‘t have enough room in their little house to put the big flag together. “

A teacher could use this book to introduce the history of the flag, and the symbolism within. Students could design their own flags after reading the story and discuss the symbolism behind their flags.

This is the flag that inspired Francis Scott Key to write the Star Spangled Banner which became our National Anthem. It is ensconced in a light- and temperature-controlled exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington DC. It is an amazing thing to experience, humbling and awe-inspiring and unforgettable. 🇺🇸 #FlagDay #JulyJam @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Day 5 - #Flag #PoetryMatters #StarSpangledBanner

Francis Scott Key (August 1, 1779 – January 11, 1843) was an American lawyer, author, and amateur poet from Frederick, Maryland who is best known for writing a poem which later became the lyrics for the United States' national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner“. Key was inspired upon viewing the American flag flying over the fort at dawn during War of 1812

Texreader I‘ve been to that fort. I think it‘s Fort McHenry if I remember correctly. It was so neat being there where this was written. 6y
EadieB @Texreader Yes it is Fort McHenry in Baltimore Maryland. (edited) 6y
