Pickpick

Picked this novel up at a B&N remainder table. The setting intrigued me because we had toured & visited the Springfield Armory many years ago & experienced a wonderful tour. This novel makes me want to revist as they are undergoing a renovation & have plans to restore the gardens.
This novel has two settings-Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn NY post WWl & WWll Springfield Armory area.

Chelleo I went to B&N today and restrained myself from buying books for myself. My boys both picked up books though (which was the reason for our visit). I did note several titles to add to the TBR list though. 4y

Ruth, the elder sister, eager to escape moves to Springfield with her husband where he is an officer in charge of designing & manufacturing new & better arms fir the war. Millie the younger sister, joins them with her toddler son after her husband goes missing. She works making parts for guns in a factory there. Ruth works 4y
kspenmoll In the payroll office. The author has done her research & presents what full lives all the women there enjoyed. The novel is narrated from the point of view of the sisters, & two friends from the Armory, an Italian cook with a gorgeous voice, & the wife of the Armory‘s Commanding Officer. At times heartbreaking, poignant, annoying, suspenseful, it is mainly about the sisters bond, though bent& broken, never breaks. 4y
kspenmoll @Chelleo What restraint! I am impressed. But since it was for your boys...what a wonderful Mom! 4y
