A lush, thoughtful read with plenty of deft turns of phrase. Best read after Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, if only so you don't have the identity of the mole spoiled.

Dogearedcopy I'm listening to 'A Perfect Spy' now and then I have 'The Russia House' *and then back to George Smiley!* #Smileyistheman (edited) 11mo
rabbitprincess @Dogearedcopy Yay! My next le Carré will probably be a re-read of The Spy Who Came In from the Cold ? 11mo
Swe_Eva I still haven't gotten around to Tinker Tailor. In a reading funk at the moment too, so that's not helping. Gave up on the current book and started a new one yesterday that I'm hoping it's my way out. 🤞🏻 11mo
rabbitprincess @Swe_Eva Oh no, a reading funk! I hope the new book does the trick. 11mo

I ❤️ John LeCarre, especially his older stuff. #smalltown #rockinmay

Pilot doesn't look too impressed, though. 😂 #dogsoflitsy

Dogearedcopy A few years ago, I started reading LeCarre novels in publication order (there are elements of the Circus outside of the George Smiley books); but I stopped right before 'The Little Drummer Girl'. I really need to go back to my "Summer of Smiley!" #Smileyistheman 2y
DGRachel @Dogearedcopy I love Smiley! LeCarre is publishing a new book with Smiley in it later this year. I'm SO excited! 2y

My first le Carré. I found this gorgeous Penguin from 1964 in my local used bookstore and bought it for 20 shekels. I can't imagine the journey it took here but it looked like it had never been read.

It has now. Under 160 pages with George Smiley right at its heart. Spies, agents, murder, Communists, Jews, tradecraft and a fight on a bridge. Absolutely marvelous.

charl08 I love these green penguins. 3y
Lindisfarne Loved this one. I feel like I read it a million years ago, yet can still recall that it was a very positive read and a good intro to Smiley before the heavier books that followed. 3y

#TBT: Over vacation in 2012, I grabbed second-hand copies of LeCarre's Karla Trilogy, and devoured them over the course of a week. Believable plot lines involving Cold War espionage and the all-too-fallible agents of The Circus create an engaging, compelling story arc that will have your blood pounding... And maybe even break your heart a little. #Smileyistheman
