The Answer Is No | Fredrik Backman, Elizabeth DeNoma (Translator)

Back online after a long long time

Well I was in a slump, insta slump, reading slump and what not.
Finally 1st read of 2025 , though a short story, it felt like a hug we need.
Backman's stories starts where I don't feel like continuing but by the end it's all smiles.

Pickpick

I‘m rounding up to a pick; I‘m not sure I really liked the MC, but I did appreciate the twist and liked the message I felt the author was giving.

Got a bingo for April #bookspinbingo with this one too!

Because of the recap at the beginning, this one wasn‘t as good. IMO, a second book in a short story should just assume that someone has read the first and carry on. Outside of that, it was a fun and quick read.

A good story, about an introvert being dragged into interactions with his neighbors. Lucas loves his life, but when the apartment board wants him to get involved, it all goes to hell. Not a whole lot of action but a lot of introspection. Parts were funny, especially the way he solves his problems at the end.

BooksandCoffee4Me I‘ve had this on my tbr list simply because it keeps appearing on my”Recommended for You” lists. Now that you‘ve described what it‘s about, I‘m moving it to the top of the list. 👍 2w

The Forester's Daughter | Claire Keegan

I continue to love the writing of Claire Keegan and this short volume did not disappoint. It is the story of a disconnected farming family and the secrets that are upended after a series of unexpected events. I don‘t want to say too much to give it away, but again - Keegan‘s masterful at giving voice to the emotions of those working families who are often viewed as stern or lacking in emotion.

This was a wonderful short read for today! I‘m very much an introvert and frequently time to myself is my happy place, so I found several aspects of this story very relatable. I also loved some of the things it had to say about happiness and contentment, and I laughed several times over the absurdity.

Lucas thinks he‘s attained pure happiness through living alone, but a meddling neighborhood council turns his world upside. I love Backman and while I enjoy his novellas, I wish they were full novels.

This is a wonderfully absurdist short story about human nature and relationships set in an apartment building where a growing pile of junk is wreaking havoc. Fredrik Backman really knows how to write a great story.

The characters were caricatures in the best way possible. Classical F. Backman :) Perfect short read!

MaleficentBookDragon I loved this little story so much! 2mo
