My favoured publisher of 2021 has to be #PushkinVertigo my longing to travel is being fulfilled by stories from around the world (not that I want to be in Tel Aviv with a serial killer), this weekend is Israel; for what is hopefully my first book of the #20in4 Readathon, hosted by @Andrew65

Andrew65 Good luck 😊👍 3y

Another foreign classic murder mystery from #PushkinVertigo this time from Japan. The writing feels a bit clunky at times. There‘s some repetition and jolting changes in narrative perspective. I‘m not sure if this is the result of the translation, characteristics of Japanese mysteries, or poor editing. The story kicks into high gear in the final 100 pages. If only the first 200 were as engrossing. Still a good read for murder season! 🔪⛩

charl08 Yup, struggled to keep my attention too. Hoping his other ones are more gripping throughout. 4y
rabbitprincess Looking forward to seeing what I think! I have to read The Honjin Murders first. 4y
iread2much The changes in narration are probably due to translation. Japanese can be really difficult to translate when it comes to subject in a narrative. Subject is generally implied, not stated in Japanese. 4y
batsy I enjoyed this a lot. Enjoyed the build up and found it very atmospheric. 4y
