Blind Date with a Werewolf | Patricia Briggs

A wonderful novel-in-stories, focusing on Asil the Moor as he undergoes a series of disastrous dates foisted upon him by an unknown friend. While probably unnecessary in the grand scheme of the Mercyverse, there is some general plot progression throughout. And it‘s genuinely fun to read about Asil‘s misadventures. And look at these gorgeous endpapers! I told hubby I want my own copy for Christmas. Probably won‘t get it but 🤞🏻

My latest library #bookhaul - if a single book can be a haul. I‘m trying to finish Nobody‘s Girl first, but I don‘t know if I can wait that long.

Absolutely fabulous, stayed up way past my bedtime and paid in head pain but totally worth it.
Asil is surprised with 5 blind dates, and each one has an unexpected adventure which also builds up the world very nicely.
5/5 read for a nice mixture of holiday and novella with excellent world building and character development

#favoritereadofthemonth (October)

I finished this in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. Once again, Patricia Briggs delivers a fun, engaging story told in 5 short stories that shes ties together about Asil (from the Mercyverse). I loved reading about his 5 dates & appreciated how she tied all 5 stories together, & even had a HEA.

Thanks for the tag @ChaptersofChaos

I read this in 2013 and I liked it, I may have read more of the series? I can‘t remember, but I have plenty of catching up to do regardless. So since 2006 we as a society are more aware of cultural appropriation & Briggs is not native & the fae are sent to reservations which is… not ideal. Urban fantasy around that time would throw in any & every culture with little to no research, I don‘t know how the indigenous community feels about it here

5feet.of.fury But I did like the story, I like Mercy. The world is pretty well rounded, she‘s underpowered (at least here) so she has to use her wits & connections which helps with the plot. 2w

Hello! I‘ve had a bit of a Litsy-hiatus due to work travel and the newly enforced vacation (iykyk). But I missed you! Y‘all help me actually think about what I‘m reading, and it turns out that I couldn‘t remember the title of a single book I‘d read lately, good or bad, when asked by my hairdresser last week 😆 so let‘s try and turn that around. At least Briggs‘ werewolves are always memorable…

It starts with a troll playing Godzilla on a bridge and it ends with the reveal that Baba Yaga is a multi level marketing guru… and the small business of averting a war between humans and the fae happens in the middle. So you know, the usual EXCEPT no one got kidnapped…

Mercy & Adam were a bit cute in this one. Possibly the end of the walking stick? An enjoyable outing!

So many things going wrong at the same time in this one.

Really enjoyed seeing Mercy pull a revenge prank that she‘s famous for… even if Adam really shouldn‘t have let it get to the point where it became necessary (like, letting Christy answer his phone more than once… really dude?)

This was a good one! (Also my first time listening to an audiobook on libro.fm)

Urban fantasy meets supernatural romance in this series that started in 2010. It feels a bit like Twilight for grown ups, repressive gender norms & all. (Actually worse with the gender norms. According to the mc "women's liberation" still hasn't gotten to the werewolves. Yoiks.) Despite that I find myself hooked? It's a compelling story, and I want to see where it goes. Basically a coyote shifter among werewolves and lots of supernatural intrigue.

rachelsbrittain To be clear, the Twilight comparison isn't meant to be negative. It's the regressive gender norms that are the problem, and even Twilight does way better on that front 😅 7mo
SpeculativeFemale I enjoyed the first few books of this series a while back, but then kind of lost track of it. I should really go back to it someday. 7mo
robinb I 💚 Mercy and her crew. Between this series and Briggs‘ Kate Daniels, these are how I got started in urban fantasy. 😊 7mo

5feet.of.fury @robinb Kate Daniels series is Ilona Andrews but I agree I loved it so much! 7mo

robinb @5feet.of.fury thanks for the catch there. 😊 I sometimes forget who wrote what. 😂 The heroines remind me of each other. 7mo

Book 7 sure had a bit of everything! Mass kidnapping, fae artefacts, shifting alliances, assassins for hire… and my personal favourite, Mercy learning more about being a Walker. The Princess Bride reference was also quite good. This brings me to the halfway point of this series and I‘m still having a fantastic time!
